In our latest "UP NEXT" feature we bring you 2015 Summerville High linebacker/defensive end Kawuan Cox. We spoke with Cox about his junior season, where things stand currently with his recruitment, and what his plans are for the future.
Although he lined up primarily at defensive end for coach John McKissick's Green Wave team the 2015 prospect already knows his future is at another position on the next level.
Still early in the process Cox says he's highly interested in Florida, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech early on. He has not set any plans yet as far as camps but is eager to start hammering out an off season camp/combine schedule soon.
The 2015 prospect talked about where his strengths and weaknesses are currently as a ball player.
"Strength and speed are two of my major strengths. I also have a great first step and an eye to get to the ball."
"To get better I have to get even stronger and have mental consistency."
Looking back on his junior season we asked Cox to tell us about his best game of the season.
"During our 2nd round of the playoffs this year we played Boiling Springs. I had 4 sacks, 10 tackles, and I had a key sack at the end of the game with us trailing by 2 points that gave us the ball back and our kicker kicked a game winning field goal as time expired. This was the farthest Summerville football has gotten in the playoffs since A.J. Green left. It was the most memorable game for me because that last play all I saw was the quarterback of Boiling Springs and my team. My focus helped our team to a victory."
With his senior season next year Cox talked about his outlook not only for himself but the team as a whole.
"My goals for the team are to win state championship and continue our athletic achievements together as a team. My personal goals are to continue to improve on and off the field personally and professionally. Another goal is the opportunity to get on the offensive side of the ball and help my team on both sides."
Cox is set to take the SAT this weekend and plans on taking the ACT in February.
SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with Kawuan Cox as his recruitment starts to take off so stay tuned!
