One of the state's top 2015 prospects, Dorman wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, has seen a high number of college coaches come thru in the last few weeks. We caught up with the talented junior to talk about some of the latest schools to check in on him and what his plans are for this off season.
So what have the programs been saying to the 2015 prospect that have swung by Dorman High School in recent weeks?
"Basically that they have high interest in me and they want to come up to camps and Junior Days and stuff."
Has anyone really started to stand out for the junior with their reported high interest thus far?
"Well they all have said they were really interested in me but nothing really stood out other than them coming to visit me and tell me they are interested."
At this point the 3-star according to Scout.com has a pair of offers. Appalachian State and Elon are the lone offers to this point. That is something that Arcega-Whiteside is hoping will change as the off season progresses and his highly impressive junior season highlight film continues to circulate.
So what are his plans for this off season?
"I'm going to as many camps as possible, mostly to the closer schools."
As we were conducting the interview the Dorman standout had an in-state school who stopped in Roebuck to make sure that he knew they were highly interested in him.
"I just met with South Carolina. Coach Elliott their offensive lineman coach came by to talk with me just now."
Arcega-Whiteside had 76 receptions for 1,477 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior.
In watching him develop since the end of his sophomore season a couple of things have really stood out to us as areas he's drastically improved.
One of his strengths as a sophomore was his ability to high point the football and make a play due to his leaping ability. He still does that extremely well. Arcega-Whiteside's speed is one area we really noticed a difference compared to his sophomore year. He took some plays where he may have been caught from behind and turned those plays into long touchdowns this year.
He has also added some good weight to his 6'3 frame bumping up to 205 pounds currently and that strength translated over to the field as well.
Given his size, speed, athleticism, and exceptional hands catching the ball we are surprised that he doesn't hold more offers currently but that will change we're certain of. It is only a matter of time before college coaches start sending more offers his way especially considering that he carries a 4.3+ GPA in the classroom as well.
Stay tuned here on SCPrepNation.com as we will have more updates concerning the 3-star's recruitment as we anticipate it will heat up immensely over the off season.
