It was a tough season for 2015 Lancaster High School wide receiver Jay Hood but he persevered and had a solid year despite of the adversities he and his team faced. Putting together a strong season Hood is hearing from a few ACC and SEC schools currently and he talked to us about his recruitment and more.
"We went 2-9 again, we were going good but lost a lot of starters due to injury. We lost a starting safety, left guard, cornerbacks and had to start freshmen."
"I had 55 catches for 730 yards and 8 touchdowns this year."
One game in particular shined brightly for Hood as his best and he shared the details with us.
"The Nation Ford game I had 9 catches for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was just a great game and it was very intense."
Asked to talk about the aspects of his game that have improved the most since the end of his sophomore season up until now the 2015 prospect had a lot to say.
"I would say first of all my mindset. Like just giving it my all on every play. I became way better at blocking this year too. I was a big impact for our offense. I also took more of a leadership role than I expected too."
Hood also talked about facets of his game that he'll be working on hard this off season to get better heading towards his senior season next year.
"I want to improve my speed and power. I wanna get bigger and faster and take things up a notch."
"We're still waiting on getting our new head coach so hopefully I'll get more recruiting stuff once they name one. Wake Forest came by the school to see me a few weeks ago and they spoke with one of my coaches about me."
As of right now the 6'3 wide receiver says he plans on going to camps at Wake Forest and North Carolina State.
Performing well in the classroom Hood reports a 3.7 GPA currently and says he plans on graduating early next year and enroll in college during second semester.
He's still awaiting that first scholarship offer and we asked him if the school that steps up first may get special consideration being the first to step up with an offer?
"Yes it would, I just hope its one of my favorites. Right now that would be North Carolina State, Missouri, and Wake Forest."
We'll have more updates with Hood as his recruitment continues to heat up so keep it right here.
