JUCO DT D.J. Jones Has Offers Galore

Quickly becoming arguably one of the most wanted prospects in the JUCO ranks is East Mississippi defensive tackle D.J. Jones formerly of Wren & Carolina High Schools here in South Carolina. The 6'2 315 pound prospect reports offers from some of college football's heavyweights and he sat down and broke things down for SCPrepNation.com regarding his recruitment and more!

D.J. Jones Profile

Its sort of ironic that we caught up with D.J. Jones the weekend after the Nike Combine in Charlotte this weekend. It was there two years ago that Jones burst onto the scene and started to pick up strong interest from schools across the southeast region. He went on to participate in the Shrine Bowl and had quite a few offers on the table but ended up taking the JUCO route and is at East Mississippi Junior College. We spoke with Jones and found out he's quickly become a highly coveted prospect in the JUCO ranks.

To say Jones has blown up would be an understatement as he gave us the rundown of the schools he has offers from currently he says.

"I've got offers from Alabama, Florida State, South Carolina, Southern Cal, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee, LSU, and Arkansas."

"Georgia is highly interested right now they say but they have not offered yet."

Currently checking in at 6'2 315 pounds the former All-State prospect says a couple of scouting services have him rated the #1 overall JUCO prospect in the country.

With so many big time offers in hand Jones broke it down for us as to when and how he plans on narrowing things down towards a decision.

"My final decision will be made in December, I'll break it down to 10 during the summer and to 5 during the season."

So what factors are going to be the most important for Jones in making his final decision?

"I'll be looking into the depth charts and seeing who is coming in and who's leaving, the coaching staff, and especially my relationship with the defensive line coach."

At this point Jones says he is wide open in terms of his recruitment. There is one school he'd like to hear more from in the near future though.

"I wouldn't mind hearing more from Auburn and Georgia."

After an All-State campaign and Shrine Bowl selection during his senior season at Wren High School (SC) Jones says his game has evolved even more since his time at East Mississippi.

"I'd say my hands are a lot more physical at contact. My flexibility and leads to my speed are better as well."

Jones says he will have 3 years to play 2 when he does make a final decision.

SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with Jones as he picks up more offers and narrows his list down come this summer so keep it right here for more on this star from the Palmetto State.
