One prospect we've seen evolve over the past year and a half is 2015 Wade Hampton power forward Jalen Williams. The 6'8 245 pound prospect has worked extremely hard to lose 45-50 pounds of weight prior to this past season and is now starting to see the rewards of his hard work as he landed his second offer on Thursday.
"Furman has now offered me," Williams said.
"Coach Niko the head coach offered me. He said that he feels I'm a great fit with the program and I agree."
Furman joins Presbyterian as the two schools that have offered Williams thus far and we asked Williams what he likes about nearby Furman.
"I like the staff. I've built relationships with the guys from playing with them too. It fits who I am so far as a person."
Another Southern Conference school is interested and Williams is waiting to hear to hear from is Wofford. Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, and Radford are some others who have been in the mix in recent weeks for Williams.
"Its been alright I just got back from California last week and I played okay but I'm always still seeking to improve every time I step on the court."
With a big frame, wide shoulders, and great hands Williams has come a long way in the past few seasons having lost a significant amount of weight. Working harder than ever Williams has a lot of upside in that he's got the big body, a soft shooting touch, knocks down free throws at a high rate, and is getting more and more explosive every week. Should he continue to improve at the rapid pace he's progressed in the past year expect a lot more schools to come calling before too long.
Williams reports a 3.9 GPA and should have his ACT and SAT scores back soon but projects easily as a full qualifier with the likes of academic powers like Furman and Wofford in the mix.
