14' PG Brandon Chauca Has Options

2014 PG prospect Brandon Chauca of 22 Ft Academy in Greenville flew under the radar but has emerged with some D1 offers. Set to fly to visit an SEC school this weekend the 5'9 Chauca has other options on the table and he talked about his season, schools in the mix, his 1st official visit, and plans for the future with SCPrepNation.com in this FREE premium update.

Brandon Chauca Profile

We went to see Legacy Charter School in their last home game of the season over a month ago as they took on 22 Ft Academy which is a new program based out of Shannon Forest Christian School. We knew what to look for with the Lions and we saw a pair of familiar faces on 22 Ft Academy's team in Davaris McGowens and Quavius Copeland. What caught us by surprise was the play of their point guard Brandon Chauca.

Roll forward a month later and word comes that Chauca has a couple of offers and has picked up one from the SEC recently. We reached out to Chauca to get the latest regarding his fast paced recruitment.

The 5'9 165 pound lead guard was excellent in guiding his team, knocking down deep 3-pointers, and getting to the hole almost at will. We'd describe him as a "slick" point guard who knows how to play the game the right way with some flash when necessary. All in all he gets the job done in a highly productive fashion in all major areas of the game for a point guard.

To our surprise Chauca gave use some surprising news about that game.

"Yeah it was my first game back from mono. One of my worst games all year. I was real out of it."

So when the news of Chauca's latest offer came out we weren't surprised.

"Yes Missouri offered. California, Washington State, and Virginia Tech are all involved still too."

Chauca is set to visit Missouri this coming weekend for an official visit and his head coach said there's a possibility that he may commit.

While that is a possibility Chauca says he plans on taking all of his official visits and plans to evaluate things after he takes all of those visits.

Chauca informed us that he's already visited Virginia Tech. He is a native of Alexandria Virginia and he talked about his visit with the Hokies extensively.

"My overall trip to Virginia Tech was great, the campus was beautiful and it was nice to have my family there for the process."

So what was the favorite part of his trip to Blacksburg for Chauca?

"Just the college atmosphere in general, the campus had a great feel and of course the facilities were top notch."

The offers have come for Chauca but he says he wasn't getting a lot of attention before here in South Carolina.

"I really didn't get any love from any type of South Carolina media all year even with a couple of 40 point games. It got frustrating. I just wish me and my teammates would've got more recognition, they really deserved more recognition."

So what will Chauca be taking a long hard look at when it comes time to making a final decision?

"First and foremost it's going to come down to the coaches and how comfortable I am with them for the next four years in my college career. I want to go somewhere where the coaches believe in me and my ability, and will stick with me loyally through thick and thin and help develop me. Education is also a factor but every school that is recruiting me at the moment is high major with outstanding academic merit so they're even in that standing. Style of play goes along with the coaches and them understanding my strengths and weaknesses, I love to run and so do all the schools recruiting me."

On the season at 22 Ft Academy Chauca says he averaged 23.1 points per game, 7.4 assists per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, 3.7 steals per game, shot 90% from the free throw line, 49% from 3-point range, and 64% from the field before his bout with mono.

Thankfully Chauca has been discovered by quite a few D1 programs and we'll keep you up to date regarding Chauca's recruitment as he's become a hot commodity in the 2014 class.
