It's been a long process for 2015 Pelion safety/wide receiver Freddie Phillips. We've been covering the talented junior since his freshman season and he has lived up to all the hype over the years. Tomorrow he's set to make his decision between three schools and he talked in detail with us about what he likes most about those finalists.
Phillips announced to us last week that Wake Forest, North Carolina State, and North Carolina are his three finalists and he broke down for us what he likes best about each program.
"With Wake Forest coach Clawson and the rest of the coaching staff really have a vision for the program."
"North Carolina State was the second school to offer me and have been recruiting me for awhile now."
"North Carolina, they were the first school to offer me and coach Koennig has been nothing but real with me since day one."
As we mentioned before Phillips has been on the recruiting map for a long time and we asked him if he was ready to be over with the procress to focus on his senior season.
"Yes that's one of the main reasons I decided it's time to make a decision."
There's also still a likelihood that other schools will continue to recruit Phillips to change his mind especially if gets out of the gates next season with a strong and emphatic start. Will new schools who enter the picture with offers for Phillips get any consideration?
"I'll continue to listen but I think me graduating early will shorten that time that schools have to still recruit me."
The 2015 prospect is projecting as a safety on the next level and all of the aforementioned schools are taking a look at playing him there. Continuing to work hard to try and get better Phillips says he's been making strides in the weight room.
"I'm up to 195 pounds so I've been beefing up a little! My max on the bench press is 300 pounds now and my power clean is 235 pounds."
Phillips initial plan was to announce on Wednesday at 7:00pm but he announced that due to a surgery that his grandmother will be undergoing that he's pushed it up to Tuesday at 11:15 am at Pelion High School. SCPrepNation.com will relay Phillips' decision as soon as he announces so keep it right here for the latest to see his choice.
