15' PF Jalen Williams Commits To Furman

Quietly and quickly 2015 PF Jalen Williams of Wade Hampton High School evolved last season for the Generals. The 6'8 245 pound prospect saw a few offers come his way but Furman intrigued him enough to secure an early verbal commitment. Inside Williams talks about his decision, running with a new AAU team, and how his progress is going to get even better.

Jalen Williams Profile

One of the state's best kept secrets on the hardwood has decided to give an early verbal commit. 2015 Wade Hampton power forward Jalen Williams came on strong last season and picked up some offers and plenty of interest. One of those schools impressed him enough that he decided to give a verbal commitment.

"I have verbally committed to Furman," Williams said.

Relatively early in the process Williams talked about what he likes so much about nearby Furman.

"I love Furman and feel like its a great fit. They are family oriented the coaches and players in how I build relationships with them. Most importantly they have good academics."

Prior to letting us know he was committing to the Paladins Williams says schools like Florida Gulf Coast, NC A&T, and Wofford have been showing interest as of late.

Williams says he will listen to any schools that offer him a scholarship but he feels pretty strong about Furman.

"Yes sir I will listen to schools that recruit me and offer me but at the same time I'm very happy with my decision and believe its a great fit."

Recently the 6'8 245 pound prospect decided to switch AAU teams and play with a local squad who has been tearing it up nationally thus far this season who was in need of more size down low.

"I decided to stay close to home and play with the Carolina Raptors Elite so I was in Atlanta with them this weekend and we won the Nike Memorial Day Classic. So it was good and I had a lot of fun. It was great I had fun playing with my friends who I consider brothers."

The plan Williams says is to keep running with the Raptors as they are 34-1 on the season and ranked as high as #2 in the country on the AAU circuit in the 17U ranks. Williams' gives the Raptors some more size down low which is something they didn't have a lot of previously.

For now Williams continues to work on various aspects of his game but especially his conditioning and explosion.

"Its going well and I'm improving each time but I still have a ways to go to get where I want to be."

As for the staff at Furman Williams told us what their reaction was when they found out he was committing to them.

"They were very excited like me about the commitment and just how good of a fit it is for both parties."
