The Boiling Springs Bulldogs have emerged over the past few years as a team to fear in the Upstate. Their talent level has risen just as steadily too. One of their top 2015 prospects, safety B.J. Stewart, landed his first offer last week and we caught up with him to talk about it and more.
Camping at nearby Wofford recently the 5'10 2015 pound Stewart got some good news upon completion of the event with a scholarship offer from the Terriers. How did the rising senior prospect feel after hearing the news?
"It was a huge sigh of relief!"
Stewart says that the Terriers' coaches say they really like his work ethic and his speed on the field. He sat down with us and talked about what areas he feels are his biggest strengths and areas for improvement heading into next season.
"I have a knack for finding the football and I feel like I can always make a good break on the ball."
"To get better I want to improve on my lateral movement and covering more ground when making downhill tackles."
When asked about his best game of the season as a junior Stewart chimed in with a game that many Boiling Springs players and fans will never forget as it was a monumental step for their program.
"Beating Gaffney at Gaffney in the first round of the playoffs. And to be honest it was a horrible game because I missed the previous game against Mauldin which was our season finale at home due to a sprained MCL I suffered at Gaffne ythe week prior to that. Anyways it was 3rd and 5 and Hylek Foster (Marshall commit) got the handoff and as soon as he got it I blitzed off the outside to stop him for a yard loss in the backfield and that play rocketed our offense's 21 unanswered point comeback to beat them 48-41 at their place."
Boiling Springs sees tons of talent each season and we asked Stewart to tell us which player he faced last year was the toughest and why?
"Shuler Bentley. He seemed to be on key with all of his receivers. Every pass that he threw was on point."
Along with the Terriers Stewart says he's hearing from other schools as well.
"Besides Wofford I'm hearing from James Madison, Coastal Carolina, and The Citadel."
One of those programs Stewart holds in high regard apparently too.
"I'd love to hear more from Coastal Carolina from an offering standpoint. That's my dream school. I like what Coach Moglia is doing down there."
Stewart has camped with Wofford, James Madison, Furman, and East Carolina so far. He says he felt like he had a solid showing at all of those camps.
The 2015 prospect also talked to us about what he'll consider strongly when choosing a potential college.
"The coaching staff is definitely the most important thing to me. If your chemistry isn't great with them then nothing else will fall into line."
SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with B.J. Stewart as his recruitment continues to roll on so keep it right for more of the very latest.
