We've been following the progress of 2016 South Florence running back Michael Grimsley closely and we caught up with him to talk about his most recent camps and combines. At most of these events he's walked away with
"It's been great seeing all my improvement. I'm in the best shape I've been in in a while. Something about going to 2 camps back to back on the weekend then running 110's on Monday gets your endurance up."
Grimsley has been to quite a few school camps recently and we asked him which one he felt was the best and why?
"Furman! Lots of reps and drills. Good competition. It was fast and efficient. Good coaches too. It was just an all-around fun and productive day there. Which is what a camp should be."
The 2016 prospect says that the Paladins have been showing him the most interest as of late as well. It should also be noted that he was the only 2016 prospect in attendance at the Furman camp.
Having won so many awards and recognition at so many of the camps and combines he's attended this off season Grimsley is still looking for his first D1 or D2 offer. What will it be like for the South Florence prospect when that day comes?
"Man I don't know. I've literally been working for this since the 9th grade. It'll be a dream come true that's for sure. It would just mean so much for my future."
So what have college coaches been saying to Grimsley at these camps?
"I try to make it a point to talk to all of the coaches at a camp and what I usually hear is that they can't about much because of my class year. I get invited to the games and they ask me to send them my next season's film ASAP. Stuff like that usually."
Hearing that the 2016 prospect says he's hoping for a fast start out of the gates during his junior season next year.
"Oh yeah I'm working as hard as I can at practices, 7on7's, and at home to be the best I can be next year."
This off season Grimsley ran a personal best of 4.49 seconds in the 40 yard dash. He's also picked up plenty of awards along the way as well as we mentioned earlier.
"I got the 10th grade MVP at the NUC Ultimate 100 Camp in Atlanta. I've been to camp at Auburn and ran a 4.5 there and posted a 36" vertical. I was able to meet coach Malzahn and running backs coach Tim Horton and got a tour around the facilities."
Prior to that Grimsley was named Combine King and RB MVP at the NUC Columbia Combine. He also won RB MVP at the NUC 5-Star Camp.
Grimsley's next camp stop will be this weekend when he camps at Coastal Carolina.
