York WR/S Daurice Simpson Has 4 Offers Now

With speed to burn 5'10 180 pound WR/S Daurice Simpson of York High School blew us away seeing him play in-person last season. 4 scholarship offers later Simpson is still flying under the radar. Simpson spoke with us about his latest offer and more as he's hoping to draw the interest of USC as he looks like a very similar player to former USC standout WR Bruce Ellington.

Daurice Simpson Profile

College coaches looking for dynamic playmakers should take a close look at 2015 York WR/S Daurice Simpson. The 5'10 180 pound prospect is one of the most dangerous prospects anytime he gets his hands on the ball and also doubles as a promising defensive back prospect as well. After seeing him play against Boiling Springs last season we knew he was a prospect to reckon with and since that time he's picked up 4 scholarship offers. We talked at length with Simpson on Tuesday night to catch you up to speed with one of the state's most underrated prospects.

"My latest offer was from Youngstown State," Simpson said.

Coincidentally or not Simpson's former York High teammate 2014 RB Ryan Moore is attending Youngstown State. The two apparently have talked about the Ohio school already.

"Yeah we've talked about it. He loves it up there!"

Joining Youngstown State with offers to Simpson currently are Illinois State, James Madison, and NC Central.

Simpson says that Missouri and NC State have been sending him letters every week as of late. Along with those schools Simpson says Illinois State is probably recruiting him the hardest currently.

Those schools have seen the dynamic playmaking ability that he has and the coaches at York High will do everything they can to put Simpson in position to have the ball in his hands next season.

"Yes sir I'll be playing wide receiver, safety, and also returning punts and kickoffs."

Most schools are currently recruiting Simpson at wide receiver. He excels there but he's got the size, speed, ball skills, and potential to be an equally as talented defensive back or safety.

Schools like Alabama and North Carolina invited Simpson to camp earlier this off season but he says he was unable to attend. He did however make the trip up to NC Central to camp and he says he did okay there.

Simpson says there in one school in particular that he'd really love to hear from soon.

"I really want to go to South Carolina."

He made no bones about it that he'd be willing to play wherever the Gamecocks want him if they were to recruit and offer him. Ironically Simpson fits the mold of what the Gamecocks like at both slot and in their defensive backfield. Supreme speed and athleticism with a penchant for making big plays.

We saw former Gamecock standout Bruce Ellington at Berkeley High and although Simpson won't line up under center for York the two are eerily similar in terms of size, speed, athleticism, and playmaking ability. That being said, South Carolina very well might love what they see in Simpson.

For Simpson his first 4-5 games during his senior season are going to be critical to impress the Gamecocks along with Charlotte, East Carolina, Mercer, Missouri, NC State, Towson, and others that have been actively pursuing him as of late.

Last season with his former teammate Ryan Moore pounding opposing defenses carrying the ball quite a bit Simpson was still able to record 50 catches for 877 yards (19.5 yard average) for 11 touchdowns. He also had 400 punt return yards with (15.3 yard average) 1 touchdown (65 yards).

During our first update with Simpson he reported a 4.48 second 40 yard dash and he told us that he and his York teammates with test and max out next week. He says he has gotten even faster since then and we'll see where his testing numbers are in another update so keep it right here with SCPrepNation.com as we anticipate Simpson's recruitment to continue to grow.
