As one of the state's fastest players 2015 Wando running back Kenny Waring emerged last season as a true weapon for the Warriors. The 5'10 180 pound prospect talked at length with SCPrepNation.com about his junior season, his recruitment, and plans for his upcoming senior season.
Last season Waring says he had 1,663 all-purpose yards for the Warriors last season also scoring 19 touchdowns averaging 8.4 yards per carry. He was named Most Valuable Offensive Back for the Warriors and also stars on the track team as well.
His track prowess started early on winning a state championship in the 100 meters as a freshman with a 10.7 second time. He says his personal record in the 100 meters now is 10.61 seconds and 21.93 seconds in the 200 meters.
Waring says he's got a pair of offers and is hearing from quite a few other schools as of late. He says more offers could be on the way not too far long into his senior campaign.
"I've been hearing from Clemson since 9th grade when I won the 100 meters as a freshman. I'm working on my grades so I can start pulling in more offers. Hopefully after this first semester others will start to pour in."
Waring says he holds offers from Charleston Southern and South Carolina State.
He's camped with SC State and says he ran a 4.3 second 40 time while there.
He talked to us about what he feels are his biggest strengths currently and areas for improvement moving forward.
"My speed and power. I'm trying to help take the team to state and win a state championship because at Wando the only sport that hasn't won a state championship is football. Basketball just won their first state championship this past year."
"I want to continue to getting better, faster, stronger, being committed, and being a leader for my team."
Waring talked about some of his biggest games of the year as a junior for Wando as well.
"The first one was Ashley Ridge I had 245 yards and 3 touchdowns. The second one was against West Ashley, I had 230 yards and 5 touchdowns. I scored 3 touchdowns in 4 minutes against West Ashley. My other one was against Byrnes when they were #2 in the state. I had 186 yards and 2 touchdowns."
The 2015 Wando prospect says his style of play he'd most likely compare to one of the NFL's top running backs.
"I'd say LeSean McCoy because he's quick, fast, explosive, and turns like a 10 yard run or whatever into a touchdown. That's the type of stuff I do and can do."
"Education and early playing time are going to be big for me. I'm trying to be a true freshman playing when I get to college. I'll probably wait until National Signing Day to decide but that if the right offer comes along I would commit early possibly."
As for his senior season Waring says he'd like to run for 2,000+ yards and 30 or more touchdowns.
