Piling up big numbers last season was 2015 Marlboro County quarterback London Johnson. He held an offer from Union College in Kentucky for a while but he picked up a pair of offers in recent days.
"Coach Hunter Spivey from Newberry offered me," Johnson told us on Tuesday.
"It feels great. I talked to them in the spring heavy and to hear from them again officially offering me is a good feeling."
The Newberry staff talked to Johnson about where they want to utilize him and how.
"They want me at quarterback. He said my height doesn't scare him one bit. He told me that I throw the ball as well as any 6'4 quarterback and that I bring so much to the table at the quarterback position."
Johnson says he will visit Newberry during the season to check out what the Indians have to offer and see what a gameday experience is like there.
The 2015 prospect says he's been working hard with his Marlboro County teammates not just at practice but outside of practice to try and get better and be more prepared for this upcoming season.
On Wednesday Johnson camped with Charleston Southern and he messaged us with some news upon completion of his time there.
"I just left Charleston Southern and left with an offer from them."
"The coaches worked me out a little bit, but they say they love me as a quarterback. He said a lot of my mechanics are natural and then worked on a few base concepts that they run in their offense. Then head coach Chadwell extended the offer to me."
So how does it feel for Johnson to land his 2nd offer in as many days?
"It feels great! Charleston Southern is beautiful and the area that its in is even better so to land one from them is especially cool. I was told about the big games they'll be playing and it made me excited. I'm overwhelmed a little bit with the school and program."
With multiple options on the table now we asked Johnson if there was any chance he may commit early to end the process?
"I'm going to pray about it. There is a chance I may commit early though. I would love to go visit a few big ACC or SEC rivalry games so I'm still waiting for that opportunity possibly too."
We'll have more updates with London Johnson as coaches are starting to see how well the explosive quarterback can be utilized in the right offensive system. Expect more schools to come calling and we'll have the latest here on SCPrepNation.com!
