Zach Watson Working Hard On His Craft

Known as one of the state's top shooters from deep, 2015 J.L. Mann shooting guard Zach Watson is working to strengthen other aspects of his game. Having worked out and camped with a number of schools the 6'4 guard filled us in on what has taken place as of late regarding his recruitment and plan to give himself the best chance to land offer number one and beyond.

Zach Watson Profile

Last year you might glance at 2015 J.L. Mann SG Zach Watson and not think much about him but then he'd let it fly from behind the arc with little effort and singe the nets and wow you with his shooting ability. That skill set has drawn plenty of interest so far for Watson and he's hoping that additional work on his game will turn into a chance to take his game to the next level. We caught up with the 6'4 guard to talk about the very latest.

"Still no offers yet but I'm going to Lincoln Memorial Saturday for a unofficial visit. I'm still talking to a lot of schools though."

"Right now there's a lot of interest from Lincoln Memorial, Newberry, North Greenville, Catawba, and Saint Leo."

What are those programs saying to Watson regarding their recruitment of him?

"I'm going to workout with most of them and then they are going to wait and watch me play in the season."

Since the end of the AAU season running with Upward Stars Upstate Watson has been working hard to take his game to the next level. The lights out shooter knows what coaches want to see as far as rounding his game out and he talked about what he's been doing to accomplish that.

"I've been lifting a lot. We have been in the weight room a lot at our high school. I've also been working a lot on ball handling and overall development of my game outside of shooting. I've put on about 5 pounds. A lot of our stuff is overall strength training and not necessarily about putting on weight. We also do a lot of explosion training and that's helped with my athleticism."

Now at 6'4 170 pounds Watson is hoping to add more strength and explosion along with weight to better prepare himself for the college level where he will be a hot commodity due to his sweet shooting stroke from the perimeter. Is he pleased with his progression so far?

"Yes sir. I'm already seeing a lot of improvements at camps and practices. It feels good going into this season. I've been to camps at Catawba, Newberry, and USC Upstate."

SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with Zach Watson as he prepares for his upcoming senior season and we'll have some video footage of Watson soon so stay tuned.
