One of the state's top 2016 quarterback prospects is Spartanburg's Austin Scott. It has been a tough but productive season for Scott and the Vikings. On Friday night the Vikings got another win and the junior quarterback rewrote the record books in two categories for his school. The Vikings moved to 5-3 on the season with a 51-15 win over Boiling Springs. We caught up with the talented signal caller to talk about the latest regarding his recruitment and record breaking career thus far.
Scott has taken visits to Clemson and Wake Forest recently and filled us in on the very latest.
"Wake Forest, Charlotte, and Clemson have been showing a lot of interest lately. They have both been telling me that they are interested in me and want me to come to more games for visits."
This past Friday night Scott broke records at Spartanburg High School for the most all-time passing yards and total offense. Considering the Vikings' long history of outstanding prospects throughout the years it speaks to the talent that Scott has and the success he's been able to enjoy through just the first three years playing for the Vikings.
"It is a great honor to break records set by great quarterbacks before me and to be mentioned in the same category is a great honor! But I know I couldn't do it without my teammates. My receivers and offensive line is the main reason I have accomplished this great honor honestly."
Despite breaking the record before the completion of his junior season at Spartanburg with an entire season ahead of his next year Scott is still waiting on his first scholarship offer. Other quarterbacks throughout the state and region have already started pulling in offers, does that motivate Scott to keep pushing himself even further?
"Yes sir, I'm patiently waiting! But every time at practice or in the weight room or Friday nights I just carry that chip on my shoulder to go out there and do my very best!"
As of right now Scott will likely try and schedule visits to Clemson, Charlotte, and Wake Forest but he's wide open to anyone right now he's informed us. Would the first school to offer him receive some extra consideration being his first offer?
"Probably because you always remember the first one you get."
So far on the season after his record breaking performance on Friday night Scott is 172-289 for 2,306 yards with 25 passing touchdowns and 4 rushing touchdowns.
