We saw York one time last season and we knew within just a few plays that 2015 CB/WR Daurice Simpson was a special talent. Well move forward to a year later and the 5'10 180 pound prospect has 4 scholarship offers and was just recently named to his year's Shrine Bowl team. We caught up with Simpson to talk about the very latest in this FREE premium recruiting update.
"I've still got offers from Illinois State, James Madison, NC Central, and Youngstown State. Lately I've been hearing from East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Missouri, NC State, Old Dominion, SC State. Hopefully I'll have some more offers after the Shrine Bowl."
Asked what his initial reaction was when he found out the good news that he'd been selected for the state's most prestigious all-star game he responded, "I was really happy and proud of myself. I just wish I was going for my true position (wide receiver) but I think I'll do great!"
Simpson says he'll play wherever asked but most of the schools recruiting him are looking at him as a wide receiver. Given the plays he made there mostly as a junior it is easy to see why in our opinion.
The 2015 prospect talked about a recent visit and his outlook moving forward regarding his recruitment with us.
"I took a visit to Georgia Southern two weeks ago and I met the Old Dominion coach just last week."
"I liked it at Georgia Southern but they don't pass the ball a lot, they're more of a running team. I've been playing mostly corner this year and a little bit at wide receiver but the season has been going good."
One school that Simpson is hoping will give him a look soon is in-state South Carolina. With slot receiver Nick Jones slated to graduate Simpson is a little taller and thicker in the Bruce Ellington mold. Simpson has the same kind of speed, explosiveness, and elusiveness firing out of the slot that Ellington had for the Gamecocks.
