One of Hillcrest's top prospects is senior defensive end Roderick Stoddard. With immense strength and a nose for the ball the senior standout has seen quite a few schools showing interest thus far. It has been an impressive season for Stoddard and the Rams wrapping up another big feat for their program recently. We sat down with him to talk about the very latest.
The 6'0 245 pound prospect has been on the radar for a couple of seasons and is one of the key pieces for Hillcrest's resurgence during the last couple of seasons. With a win last night over Woodmont the Rams secured their second consecutive Region 1-AAAA championship.
"So far this season I have 50 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble."
The 2015 prospect has a couple of offers and he talked about the very latest with us regarding his recruitment.
"I'm hearing from Army, Gardner-Webb, North Greenville, Wofford, Western Carolina, and Lenoir-Rhyne."
"I have offers from Army and Union College (KY)."
The 2015 standout has taken quite a few visits thus far too. He informed us he's visited Gardner-Webb, North Greenville, Wofford, and Western Carolina so far. He told us some things he liked about each program that he learned on those visits.
"Gardner-Webb had great hospitality and the coaches were truthful."
"I like the way that North Greenville is building their program."
"Wofford has nice facilities and is a great place to get a degree from."
There's one visit lined up soon for Stoddard and he gave us the scoop about that one.
"I will be attending the Army- Navy game to see Army play. I'm looking forward to seeing how that atmosphere is and what Army has to offer when I visit."
With the Rams winning their second consecutive Region 1-AAAA championship on Friday night we asked Stoddard about what it has been like being in the midst of the program during their upturn these past few years?
"Well I have been in the program since the 7th grade and we have always had a strong core group of guys that trained hard! We never gave up on the goals and standards that we set when we were on the C-team. We knew that we would have a good varsity team based on our dominance then. The key to our success is hard work! We also have a very intelligent group that are also very coachable."
Hillcrest's record stands at 10-1 currently and they will host Ashley Ridge in the first round of the AAAA playoffs next week.
