The road hasn't been easy for defensive tackle D.J. Jones but his perseverance and dedication has paid huge dividends. Originally on our radar at Carolina High School before he transferred to Wren High School the standout prospect went the JUCO route and ended up at East Mississippi Community College. During his time there he's evolved into the nation's most sought after defensive tackle and after landing offers from a who's who of college football he gave a verbal commit to Florida State.
The Seminoles knew going in other schools would not relent in their pursuit of Jones and two schools have managed to land in Jones' final three with the defending national champions. Speaking of national champions, Jones helped East Mississippi win a JUCO National Championship this season. Now the spotlight will turn to Jones on Wednesday when he'll announce his college destination between FSU, Alabama, and Ole Miss. We spoke with Jones about the schools and what he likes most about his final three.
With Florida State Jones told us that their reputation and being a program that contends and wins national championships is what he likes most about the Seminoles.
What about the other two schools that have crept into the mix?
"With Alabama I love the opportunity to play beside two of my old teammates and play for a great coach, Nick Saban."
"With Ole Miss its really the same. They've got a linebacker on defense I played with last year and to be a part of one of the best defenses in the SEC."
Jones will announce on Wednesday at a time yet to be determined at Total Fitness in Powdersville, South Carolina which is near to his former high school, Wren. There he'll have family, friends, former high school teammates, and his former head coach Jeff Tate there for his announcement...stay tuned as we'll be there to see which school Jones announces for.
