One thing you can't say is that 2016 Emerald safety K.J. Chamberlain doesn't make an impact. Playing with 3-star 2015 defensive tackle Gage Cervenka the junior put up some incredible numbers this past season leading the state in interceptions and helping lead his team to a deep playoff run in the AAA ranks. We caught up with Chamberlain over the weekend to talk about the very latest regarding his recruitment.
So what did Wake Forest have to say to the 6'2 194 pound safety from Emerald?
"They questioned me about how could I improve my game, weightlifting, and how I'm the star of the team. They said they want me to come up for a visit in the Spring."
Chamberlain says he had an away basketball game when the Appalachian State recruiter stopped by so their time was limited. They too want to get him up for a visit and informed him that they will be recruiting him moving forward.
Other schools that the state leader in interceptions has been talking to are South Carolina and Louisville. Chamberlain visited with South Carolina last season and the Cardinals are new to the mix for him.
Moving forward the plan is to see which other schools reach out to him and try and make some visits whether it be Junior Day events or camp settings. Chamberlain says he's got a pair of combines lined up for March and he's hoping that exposure will help lead to more schools stepping up their recruitment of him.
We'll have more updates with K.J. Chamberlain as we still feel he's flying under the radar. One look at his film and stats paired with his 6'2 194 pound frame and speed should open more eyes of college coaches here soon so stay tuned.
