2016 Lexington High running back Slade Carroll has been on the recruiting radar for over a year now and he busted out with a huge junior season after showing so much promise during his sophomore campaign. Schools will like the talented back's straightforward style and frame now and he's continuing to work on his game to elevate his stock this off season. We sat down with Carroll on Sunday to talk about how things went this past season, what his plans are moving forward, and what the latest is regarding his recruitment.
"I had 298 carries for 1,630 yards and 18 touchdowns this season. I also had 6 catches for 58 yards," Carroll said.
His production on the field has seen his list of interested schools grow in response to an outstanding junior season. He shared with us some of the schools who've stepped up their efforts as of late.
"The schools that have came by the school are Air Force, Appalachian State, The Citadel, Georgia Southern, and Wofford so far. I also get a lot of mail from Cincinnati and Missouri. Bucknell has invited me to their Junior Day in April. Bucknell is the only one who is in contact with me daily."
We asked Carroll if he feels Bucknell may be the first offer and what other schools he's hoping to see for junior days this off season and he replied, "I have a feeling that they like me a lot and I have the abilities that they are looking for. I hope to get invited to Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Appalachian State, and Charlotte for junior days."
The talented back from the Midlands continues to make progress in the weight room as well as he reports his latest bench press of 270 pounds and a squat of 465 pounds. That work will be on display this off season as he'll try to hit some camps and combines he says.
"My 40 yard dash is still around a 4.64-4.65 and I'm going to a speed trainer to help me get ready for my combines. I'm attending the Nike regional combine in Charlotte and another camp in Charlotte."
As for schools that Carroll is hoping will step up their recruiting efforts soon his wishlist is, "I would like to hear from Wake Forest more along with Georgia Tech and Charlotte."
His efforts didn't go unnoticed this season as he earned Region 5-AAAA All-Region honors, 1st team All-County, All-Area honorable mention, and was named Lexington's Offensive MVP.
We'll have more updates with Slade Carroll as he's a prospect to watch in 2016 after a strong junior season. Keep it right here with SCPrepNation.com for more of the very latest.
