'16 Greer CB Troy Pride Talks UNC Offer

Things progressed quickly for 2016 Greer CB Troy Pride Jr. as he landed his first offer from Virginia Tech and almost as quickly he committed to the Hokies and Frank Beamer. Well that hasn't stopped other schools from making their interest known in Pride Jr. as he's picked up other offers in recent weeks including one from another ACC school, North Carolina. Inside we've got the latest.

Troy Pride Jr. Profile

It didn't take long for 2016 Greer High cornerback Troy Pride Jr. to commit to Virginia Tech. The 6'1 165 pound speedster appears to be a great fit for the Hokies but as his film has continued to circulate other schools are still chasing after Pride Jr. in hopes of possibly getting him to change his mind. Another ACC program is the latest to offer Pride Jr. and he gave us the news recently and talked about more.

"North Carolina offered me. Coach Warren says he liked my length, natural speed, and physicality," Pride said.

Although he's verbally committed to Virginia Tech the 2016 Greer High prospect has a number of schools actively pursuing him despite the commitment. How's it feel for Pride to still be a hot commodity?

"It's a huge blessing honestly but I understand that I have a home at Virginia Tech so I'm less stressed about offers."

So what other programs are in pursuit of Pride as of late?

"I'm hearing from Marshall, Michigan, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina."

Marshall is another school that has offered Pride despite his commitment to Virginia Tech. We asked the speedy corner if picking up additional offers makes him want to take some visits to see what the schools who've extended scholarships have to offer?

"Honestly I will probably go up to UNC to check it out."

The Hokies staff made Pride priority being his first offer and they continue their recruitment of the verbal pledge despite all the other schools actively pursuing him.

"Oh most definitely. Virginia Tech is doing a great job of staying in contact regularly. I talk to coach Gray frequently, they're currently on Spring Break but they are still very interested and excited for me they say."

Pride will attend the Nike Opening regional camp on March 22nd. He talked about where things are with his training for the event and beyond.

"Well I definitely have confidence in my abilities and hope to get an invite but honestly I'm just trying to get better with some more work and I've worked on my explosion out of breaks and back pedal speed a lot. I've also made mental strides at my off man guarding."

We'll continue to track the recruitment of Troy Pride Jr. as it has become apparent schools will continue to pursue him despite his Virginia Tech pledge so stay tuned.
