Cameron Johnson Profile

There are things that you can't teach and one of those is size. Blessed with that size is 2016 Marlboro County offensive tackle Cameron Johnson. Standing 6'8 260 pounds Johnson has drawn early interest from a number of ACC and regional schools early on in the recruiting process. We spoke with Johnson to talk about a gamut of things recently.

Johnson talked about where his game is right now in regards to strengths and areas for improvement.

"I feel like my pass blocking and versatility are my strengths right now because my arms are longer and I can take longer steps back."

"I want to be quicker with my feet and to keep getting stronger so I can finish every block."

Given his size and talents he's already heard from a number of schools as we said. He recited the programs who are currently showing the most interest.

"I'm hearing from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, NC State, Navy, SC State, Yale, Stetson, and Harvard."

"I don't have any offers yet but I hope to gain some after attending some camps this summer."

A pair of ACC schools are chasing him the hardest right now he says, "Virginia and North Carolina are recruiting me the hardest out of everybody."

To try and secure some offers Johnson reeled off the schools he plans on camping with this off season.

"I plan on going to camps at Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson, and NC State. I've attended games at North Carolina and SC State so far."

Johnson talked about what he liked about both schools during those visits.

"I really like the atmosphere at North Carolina and I definitely loved the fan support. South Carolina State's atmosphere was different, it wasn't as big but it was okay."

We asked Johnson if there were any particular players that he enjoys watching to try and study to better his techniques and play on the field.

"I've always watched Michael Oher, I like the way he moves when he kick slides on his pass blocks and the Pouncey twins because their effort is endless on every play."

With a number of outstanding academic schools showing strong interest early on Johnson was confident in what he says he'll look at closest when choosing a destination.

"Definitely education, I have to go to a school that offers the course I want to major in. I'll consider the coaching staff, how they coach, and their expectations for players. I'll also look at the school's atmosphere and I'll also look at how much I'll get to play. I'd like to major in engineering."

For next season Johnson says, "I want to continue to work hard and get better in all aspects of the game, get as many offers as possible, and win a state championship with my teammates."

The 6'8 260 pounder reports a 4.6 GPA in the classroom currently and took the SAT recently. He is currently ranked 5th in his class academically.
