Chris Smith Profile

We were one of the first to tell you about talented 2016 South Pointe cornerback Chris Smith and it appears he has arrived in terms of his recruitment. On Tuesday he picked up offers number six and seven. We spoke with Smith about the very latest including a big offer from an in-state program.

The 6'0 170 pound prospect has seen his stock skyrocket in the past couple of months. So much that he very well could be looking at double digit offers before too long. He talked about some of the offers he's picked up recently leading up till now.

"Campbell was my first offer. I felt very relieved to finally get the first offer after all the hard work it took a bunch of weight off my shoulders."

Soon afterwards Smith also had offers from Furman, Mercer, Gardner-Webb, and Coastal Carolina. Today though he landed another pair which brings his total offers to seven currently.

"I picked up offers from Old Dominion and South Carolina today."

We asked Smith what the Gamecocks staff has said to him thus far.

"Coach Ward said he showed the cornerbacks coach and he said we have to get this guy. So that's big they like me as a corner and how I play."

The interest is mutual for Smith and the last time he was close to the Gamecocks program was when he was helping South Pointe win another AAA state championship at Williams-Brice Stadium.

"I plan on visiting with South Carolina in May. I like their education program. I also like the way they will start their freshmen if they work for it. I haven't heard anything but positive things about the football program."

Gamecock fans could say that South Pointe has been a pipeline of talent for them with former DE Jadaveon Clowney and CB Stephon Gilmore both pledging to the Gamecocks from the Rock Hill program.

The 2016 prospect told us that even though its still early in his recruitment that a pair of programs are out front currently.

"South Carolina and Old Dominion."

Also recruiting Smith as of late has been the likes of Bowling Green, Florida Atlantic, Tulane, Central Florida, and Wake Forest. Who will be the next to offer Smith possibly? And who else does he want to hear more from in the near future?

"Wake Forest I think, maybe I hope."

"I would like to hear more from Tennessee, West Virginia, East Carolina, Bowling Green, North Carolina, Baylor, Miami, Connecticut, Kentucky, Mississippi, Indiana, Michigan State, and pretty much anybody who wants to recruit me."

We'll continue to track Smith's recruitment as he will make that trip to South Carolina soon to check out the Gamecocks and their program.
