It's that time of year. When scholarship offers are going out during the spring evaluation period. One prospect we featured not too long ago, 2016 Spartanburg cornerback Mike Murphy, got some great news on Thursday. He gave us the news and more in this quick hitter.
"I just received my first offer from Mercer," Murphy messaged us.
"It feels great I saw the coach today at practice and they told coach that they were gonna contact me. But it feels great to get that first one!"
The Bears are a relatively new program and Murphy says he doesn't know a lot about them yet.
"Today was my first time talking to them. I just had a great practice today and they noticed."
Murphy says schools like Wofford, Newberry, and East Carolina have been by this week but he's expecting a lot more next week. He's been communicating with a number of schools via social media.
"I've been talking to Western Carolina, South Carolina State, Lehigh, and Wofford."
The 6'2 180 pound prospect talked about what his plans are coming up soon.
"I have to go to the Opening Regionals in Charlotte Saturday, then I'm gonna go to a couple of schools camps in the summer. I haven't decided which ones yet though."
The Spartanburg cornerback says he's been working on his speed and cover skills to help prepare himself for this upcoming Saturday in Charlotte.
Murphy was the EPT Football Skills Showcase last month and was one of the top 10 defensive backs in attendance according to the coaches in a stacked group which was probably the most talented position at the event.
We'll continue to track the recruitment of Mike Murphy as we feel he's flying under the radar with a great blend of size, athleticism, and upside to boot.
