You have to appreciate the toughness that 2016 Lexington High running back Slade Carroll has when he's toting the football. He started to emerge during his sophomore season and he made a huge impact last year for his team. That rugged style and toughness will be on display this weekend he informed us as he'll camp with a pair of schools in adjoining states.
Things have picked up with both schools Carroll informed us as he says he stays in contact with both on a regular basis. The 2016 running back holds an offer from in-state Presbyterian already after piling up 1,630 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground last season as a junior.
Other schools that are actively in the mix he says.
"I'm hearing from The Citadel, Gardner-Webb, Wofford, and Liberty also."
The plan he says is to attend a couple more camps after his stops this weekend with GSU and ECU.
At the Elite Position Training Football Skills Showcase back in April Carroll was one of the top running back performers and he says he's been keying on a couple of aspects to better his skills to prepare for upcoming camps and next season.
"I've been working for more speed and also my side to side movement down the field."
As for next season he outlined how things have gone this spring with his team.
"Spring practice went very well. It's a process and we have been working hard since spring. We will keep the intensity up for summer as well. My goals for next season are to win the opener, win the region, and main goal is to win state."
The bruising runner has also upped his squat max in the weight room to 475 pounds he informed us. We'll catch up with Carroll after his camp stops at Georgia Southern and East Carolina this weekend so stay tuned to see how things went at both schools.
