If you look at the 2017 basketball rankings the top rated prospect here in the Palmetto State is Irmo guard Devontae Shuler. We caught up with Shuler as his stock continues to rise in a hurry. National level programs are starting to take notice and have started to actively recruit him. He also picked up his biggest offer to date on Wednesday and broke things down for us with everything as of late.
The young Irmo prospect says that in-state South Carolina is recruiting him the hardest right now but he picked up offer from the other USC yesterday. As Southern California became his most recent offer.
"It feels great to get an offer from USC. Hopefully I can get more offers this June. They called my AAU coach and told him. Then he called me after he got off the phone with them and told me they had offered."
Shuler says that Southern Cal hadn't really been recruiting him prior to the offer and that prior to that offer he felt like South Carolina and Clemson were going to be the next to offer him possibly.
He spoke about the idea of being all the way across the country.
"No being across the country wouldn't be a problem at all. I like visiting places and experiencing new things. I definitely would want to see what California is like."
The fast rising 2017 prospect also talked about how things have gone thus far for him on the AAU circuit.
"It's been great so far, I'm running with the Hornets this year."
Shuler pointed out that his biggest strengths on the court right now are attacking the basket in transition and that that he wants to improve his ballhandling to become an even better prospect.
Asked if there were any other schools out there he had this to say, "I'm looking to hear from any schools that's going to help me advance my game."
Up next for Shuler and his AAU squad is the Champion Showcase July 9th-12th.
We'll have more updates with Devontae Shuler as we anticipate things to pick up in a hurry for him moving forward as he's a high major prospect on the national level.
