We identified 2018 Byrnes wide receiver Demarcus Gregory prior to the start of his freshman season with the Rebels and although he didn't play much due to a nagging hip injury that held him out pretty much most of his freshman campaign he's back healthy and on the camp circuit pretty hard now. The 6'3 195 pound prospect performed well back in April at the EPT Football Skills Showcase and he's continued to build off that early showing as he's hit some school camps. He sat down with us to talk about a pair of ACC camps and one SEC school he's visited and more.
"North Carolina was good. I really like the campus and I had a great camp there."
So what did the Tar Heels coaches have to say to Gregory?
"They said I have a bright future and they want to see my transcript and once they see the transcript I will receive some good information from them. Coach Gunter Brewer showed me a lot of love. I learned a couple of tips like how to beat your defensive back on releases."
Gregory was at Georgia recently with his Byrnes team competing in a 7on7 tournament and he talked about what he saw while there and what the Bulldogs staff said to him.
"Georgia was good but we lost in the championship with a few seconds to go. The coaches brought me and two other players inside the weight room. From what I saw I liked it a lot, the weight room was really nice."
Nearby Clemson was also amongst Gregory's recent camp stops and he filled us in on how things went with the Tigers.
"Clemson went really good. Coach Scott gave me the most attention. He said after he sees my transcript that they will offer me. I really love the facilities and coaches at Clemson."
The Tigers staff also shared some tips with him while there as well.
"I learned how to stack the DB on a deep route."
So it sounds as if Gregory could be on the verge of his first scholarship offer here soon if what the UNC and Clemson coaches said is true. It may be a race to view his transcripts to see which one offers first.
Up next for Gregory is camp with the Tennessee Volunteers he says.
He says that "practice has been good and I've been doing good in 7on7 play."
