The 2018 recruiting class is starting to take shape early on and despite their youth they have an immense amount of star power it seems. Another one of the players who'll be a national caliber prospect here in the Palmetto State is Lewisville defensive tackle Josh Belk. The 6'4 305 pound prospect camped with both in-state powers this past week and walked away with a pair of scholarship offers. He's "UP NEXT" here on SCPrepNation.com!
"Well this past season I only played in 4 varsity games. I started late because I didn't have a physical but each game I had like 7 or more tackles."
Belk camped with South Carolina this past week and he gave us a quick rundown on how things went in Columbia with the Gamecocks staff.
"It was fun, helpful, live, and I loved it! It was the first college camp I've been to. I went to a VTO camp earlier this year."
"Coach Ward and coach Adams showed me a lot of attention at USC. They liked my frame, power, and my effort they said."
They liked Belk so much that they extended the 6'4 305 pound freshman a scholarship offer and he talked about what went through his mind when they told him initially.
"I was speechless and very proud of myself."
Belk says other schools he's heard from include Clemson, Duke, NC State, and tons of others that he couldn't recall right off. Up next for him on the camp circuit is camping with in-state Clemson (he did and landed a Clemson offer as well) and he informed us that other camps could be in his future down the road. Belk also picked up an offer from LSU earlier as well.
Asked to key on his biggest strengths as a defensive tackle he made it short and sweet.
"Getting to the man with the ball on defense. That's what I love."
He also talked about some areas he wants to improve to get better next year during his sophomore season.
"I want to improve my wind and strength to maximize the execution on what I do."
Belk says he'd love to hear from as many schools as possible moving forward and he talked about some goals he's set for himself next season.
"I want to do my best and do what I can to help my team the most."
We'll continue to track Josh Belk's recruitment over the next 3 years as he's already off and running as a high major recruit early in the process.
