With the season underway one prospect who's trying to emerge after a solid junior season last year is Dorman safety Rodney Landrum. That solid campaign last year drummed up some interest from regional schools and one school in particular has taking a strong liking to the 6'2 185 pound safety. We caught up with Landrum as he got his season off with a bang last Friday night.
"Last year I had 52 tackles, 10 pass break ups, and one forced fumble. I played mostly as a backup on varsity and mostly on JV last year so those stats are combined. My best game was against Boiling Springs. I had 2 key pass break ups and maybe 6 or 7 tackles."
As we mentioned though Landrum had his best game of his career so far last Friday night and he told us about it.
"It was my best game so far. I had 1 interception, 2 fumble recoveries, and 6 tackles. I was put in the newspaper for it."
That one school in particular who has taken a liking to Landrum is nearby Wofford he says.
"Wofford is the closest to offering me. I had a really good camp there. Unfortunately I haven't really heard from any other schools yet."
Landrum says worked on improving his footwork, playing faster, and coverage skills this off season. Since the end of his junior season he says that his tackling, footwork, and that he's playing with more confidence now compared to then.
The 2016 prospect says he enjoys watching and patterning his game after one particular player.
"Kam Chancellor. I like his physicality and how he tackles so well. He's someone I try to play like.
Although Wofford is the primary school he's heard from thus far Landrum says there are others that he's wanting to hear more from soon.
"Furman, Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, Presbyterian, and North Greenville are schools I'd love to hear more from."
What college coaches will also love about the 2016 safety prospect is his work in the classroom. He reports a 4.0 GPA, 1160 out of 1600 on the SAT, and a 19 on the ACT.
That academic work paired with a fast start to his senior season and good upside on the field should bring more schools into the mix.
