We checked out the matchup between Emerald and Greer a couple of weeks ago and there were quite a few players we went into the game expecting to see. While the players with prior reputations performed well we also came away highly impressed with 2016 Emerald linebacker De Drennon. Throughout the night Drennon was all over the field making tackles and on more than one occasion wowing the crowd with big time hits. We caught up with the playmaker this past week to talk about his senior season and recruitment.
The 5'11 205 pound senior has started his season off with a bang and he recalled his season stats prior to this past Friday's stats.
"I've got 48 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 blocked punts, 1 blocked field goal, and 1 forced fumble."
Compare it to his junior season stats and you see the progress he's made over the off season up to this point. Last year Drennon had 65 tackles, 5 forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks, 3 recovered fumbles, and one interception returned for a touchdown.
Thus far Drennon says he's hearing from just a pair of schools.
"I've heard from South Carolina State and Coastal Carolina. Both said that they liked my junior season film and that they'll keep an eye on me. I've went to State's Junior Day for a visit."
So how did the 2016 prospect enjoy his time in Orangeburg?
"It was good the coaches were great and they have a really good program."
There are other schools out there that Drennon wants to hear more from and from what we've seen in person and on his film more schools will definitely want to check out this hard hitting sleeper from Emerald.
"I've been wanting to hear from Western Carolina, Old Dominion, NC A&T, and East Carolina."
Drennon says he'll take the SAT on October 3rd and has already taken the ACT.
We'll continue to follow Drennon's recruitment as he's a player that will thrive in the right program. For now check out some of his testing measurables below and find out how to follow us on Twitter.
