We've had our eye on 2017 T.L. Hanna running back Davijuan Dean for over a year now and he's grown and improved since we saw him as a sophomore. So much to the point that he's already picked up his first scholarship offer not too long ago. We caught up with the 6' 185 pound back from Anderson County to talk about his junior season, recruitment, some recent visits, and more.
"Right now I don't really know for sure what my exact stats are this year. I have like 15-16 touchdowns and close to 1,000 yards rushing, I'll breaking 1,000 yards in the next two games."
We asked the 2017 prospect about the schools he's heard from thus far in the recruiting process.
"I've been offered already by Old Dominion. I've also been hearing from Appalachian State, Notre Dame, Purdue, and Charlotte."
Dean says he took a visit to ODU earlier this season and he received the good news shortly thereafter.
"I didn't sleep that night after the offer (laughs), it felt like a big bear just jumped off my chest! My visit to ODU was good! Coach Forrest is the coach that is recruiting me and he is really cool. He hits me up every week checking up on me."
The 2017 T.L. Hanna standout has already taken other visits as well. He caught us up to speed briefly about his other trips so far including his most recent one this past weekend.
"Appalachian State was great! I loved it, the coaches were cool and I loved the atmosphere. My favorite part was after they won in 3 overtimes the turn up in the locker room afterwards! The App State coaches say they like how I get north and south, how I fight for yards, and that one man can't bring me down."
"I also visited Clemson back when they had their spring game but they didn't really say anything. I love Clemson though, that's my dream school. I've been going to the games there since I was little. Everything is so nice up there."
We asked Dean to talk about the strengths of his game right now and the areas he'd like to improve on the most to become and even better running back.
"I'd say my ability to run btween the tackles is my biggest strength. Like running up the middle, but my speed is so good that I can make you miss on the outside and in open space also. I think to get better I want to improve on my pass blocking ability."
Already with a nice group of schools he's hearing from Dean says there are definitely more he'd love to hear from in the near future as well.
"I"d like to hear more from Florida State, Ohio State, LSU, and Alabama. You know all the top D1 schools."
Asked to name the one player his game most resembles he said, "Melvin Gordon because he is around my height. He runs powerfully and he has good speed. He's also got good vision and awareness. Those are some of the same skills I have too."
For his efforts Dean was named his team's top running back last season and this season he's been named offensive player of the week by the Anderson County Touchdown Club.
The 2017 prospect says he'll take the ACT or SAT soon after recently taking the PSAT. He's still awaiting those scores.
