Kendrick Tate: Lockdown DB Has D1 Interest gives you an update on lockdown defensive back Kendrick Tate of Gaffney High School. Tate has the attention of opposing quarterbacks and offensive coordinators and now he awaits more attention from college coaches.

"Don't throw it to Tate's side!!!" It's often heard from opposing teams when playing the Gaffney Indians. The player they are referring to is defensive back Kendrick Tate. A senior, Tate at 5'11 165 pounds is a monster in the defensive backfield for Gaffney. With a bevy of skills and talent Tate fills in on the latest.

"Right now I'm hearing from Oklahoma and Southern California the most," Tate told us. "I don't have any offers yet but I'm most interested in Florida, Oklahoma, and Southern Cal. I'd also like to hear from South Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee."

The Gaffney Indians and Tate are off to a 5-0 record thus far on the season and are coming off a AAAA Big 16 state championship a year ago. Early in the season we asked Tate to describe to us how he feels he's fared to this point. "It's been great. I don't get the ball thrown to my side most of the game."

As Kendrick waits on his first offer he already knows what area he would like to study when he gets to a college campus. "Business Management, I like real estate." Until an offer is extended expect Tate to keep making plays on the field although most plays are in support of his teammates as opposing offenses stay away from Mr. Tate.

He offered us this description of what makes him such a standout defender, "I'm able to recognize routes quickly, I've got good flexibility, explosiveness, and I excel in man to man coverage. Right now my weakness is probably my weight (lack of). I'd like to work on my zone coverage more too."

With a great year already and a matchup with powerhouse Byrnes to be televised nationally in just a few weeks expect to hear more from Gaffney's Kendrick Tate as the season unfolds.
