2008 Intro: Abbeville RB Toquavius Gilchrist

In Abbeville he's affectionately known by his nickname "Qua-Qua" but Toquavius Gilchrist has been dazzling the hometown fans for three years now. The stud running back is looking to make a name nationally now and SCPrepNation.com hit the road and sat down with him to give you the scoop on his recruitment along with a look at a personal side of "Qua-Qua."

You mention the name "Qua-Qua" in the Upstate of South Carolina and high school football fans know you're talking about junior running back Toquavius Gilchrist from Abbeville High School. Every Friday night he's putting on a show for the television cameras and Panthers fans in the stands. SCPrepNation.com traveled to Abbeville High School and brings you the latest concerning one of South Carolina very best in the class of 2008.

After a junior season in which he carried the ball 170 times for 1450 yards and 14 touchdowns the tremendous numbers speak volumes but the 6'2 195 pound Gilchrist feels there's room for improvement. "Yes sir I really would like to improve my speed. My fastest time in the 40 is a 4.63."

It hasn't taken long for colleges to take notice and send the junior sensation tons of letters and correspondence though. Three schools however currently stand out the most at the moment. "Right now Notre Dame, Clemson, and Georgia are my favorites." With such prominent programs already in the hunt for his commitment you can expect more big time D1 schools to join the battle for his signature in the near future.

Interestingly enough though football is apparently is a family affair as he informed us that he is cousins with Marcus Gilchrist of Wingate Andrews High School in North Carolina, who is a 2007 commit to Clemson. With the Tigers being one his early favorites we had to ask if the possibility of playing with his cousin could be a big factor in making his decision? "It would be nice to go to school with him but at the same time I want to check things out and make my own decision and do my own thing. You never know though."

Gilchrist informed us that two games in his career are some of the most memorable for him thus far. "Yeah I've got two games actually. One was my sophomore year, it was the first game of the season against Ninety-Six and I ran for 225 yards and 7 touchdowns. The other one would have to be our first region game this year against Pendleton. I had 32 carries for 325 yards and 2 touchdowns."

With such explosive rushing outbursts in the aforementioned games we asked "Qua-Qua" if he looked up to anybody specific on the gridiron to try and learn from and imitate. His response was very popular one with dynamic running backs lately. "Oh man...(with big smile)...Reggie Bush. I love the way he plays. He's so calm out there but he comes ready to play every game. I try to imitate him a lot. I love to try and juke people the way he does."

"Qua-Qua" is a well rounded athlete as he informed us that he also plays basketball and runs track as well. (100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay)

SCPrepNation.com will bring you all the latest concerning dazzling 2008 running back Toquavius Gilchrist as he marches on towards his senior year and eventually a college destination.
