Robert Geathers Gets 6-Year Extension

Robert Geathers had a huge smile on Thursday as he was rewarded for his stellar play this year with a 6 year contract extension. The former Carver's Bay High star became a priority for the Cincinnati Bengals after a breakthrough season.

Robert Geathers went through some strenuous offseason workouts to drop some weight and add quickness and the Cincinnati Bengals apparently liked the results of his hard work as they extended his contract on Thursday with a six-year deal.

Geathers, a former star and standout at the University of Georgia had a career season with 10.5 sacks on the year. In addition to that Geathers also made 42 tackles in 2006. A fourth round pick out of Georgia, Geathers saw his time on the field this season dwindle due to coach Marvin Lewis' idea to use him as a pass rush specialist during specific situations. With his coach's defensive mind to guide him and the drive to lose weight this past offseason Geathers is now reaping the benefits of his labor after his most productive season to date. The Bengals are banking that Geathers will continue to improve and become one of the league's top pass rushers year in and year out to anchor their defense. will have more on Robert Geathers and other former SC high school standouts in college and in the professional ranks.
