It's been a whirlwind journey for Mike Jones but he's glad to be home in Columbia. With a fresh start ahead of him things things will be looking up for the South Carolina Gamecocks as he plans to enroll this week. Come inside for the latest.
is now officially a South Carolina
Gamecock. The former Lower Richland High School standout was given admission to the University of South Carolina on Friday and could enroll as early as this coming Monday. Jones originally signed with Syracuse
University coming out of Lower Richland and played in 11 games this year as a freshman. The Lower Richland star felt a severe case of homesickness and ultimately decided a return home to play for the Gamecocks was the way to go to remedy the situation.
Jones was named South Carolina's "Mr. Basketball" winner in 2005 and was one of the nation's most heralded high school seniors as well. Jones should be eligible to play during the fall semester of next season.
His return marks the 3rd major South Carolina native who originally decided to take their game out of state before deciding to come back to the Palmetto State. The Gamecocks have been the recipient of each of those players as Devan Downey (Cincinnati) and Zam Fredrick (Georgia Tech) will be eligible to play for Dave Odom's squad next season.
SCPrepNation.com will have more on former Palmetto State stars like Mike Jones, Devan Downey, and Zam Fredrick so stay tuned.
