Teams of the Week

Each week we will recoginize the top team performances from around the state as well as a statewide team of the week. This week we were treated to many outstanding performances in the opening week.

Low Country team of the week

Colleton County Cougars

In their first ever game the Cougers of Colleton County pull out the win over the Wando Warriors 16-12. Cougar scoring was thanks to a 50 yard run by RB Eric Jordan, a 20 yard fumble recovery return by Antonio Chisolm and a 37 yard field goal by Culpper. This marks Coach Riley's 13th consecutive opening game win as a head coach.

Upper State team of the week

Union Yellow Jackets

Playing in front of a hostile crowd, the Yellow Jackets stepped up big in the overtime and defeated the defending Big 16 champion Spartanburg Vikings. It was only the third opening defeat for the Vikings in over 40 years and the Yellow Jackets are looking strong in the early season.

CSRA team of the week

North Augusta

The yellow jackets got 2002 off on the right foot once again, as they posted an impressive 28-7 win over neighboring county rival Strom Thurmond. Martise Quiller had a big night for the jackets, rushing for 118 yards on 27 carries to lead all ball-carriers. The defense played a superb game, limiting Strom Thurmond to less than 150 yards in total offense. This week, North Augusta is featured in the CSRA Game of the Week at home against Midland Valley. The game will be carried via the airwaves courtesy of WBBQ-AM 1340 the Sports Ticket, with Charles McNeal and Pat Cumiskey doing the commentating and play-by-play.
