Day 2 Superlatives
Lights Out/Best Shooting Performance: Broome's Seneca Turner edges out Southside's Robbie Dreher as her shots were raining all day to the tune of 27 points. Dreher hit three consecutive 3 pointers in one quarter on his way to 19 points.

Best Pass: Calhoun County's Alshaun Jeffrey threw a lookaway one hand bullet through the paint that resulted in a easy layup for his teammate

Biggest Rivalry: The Greenville County showdown in AAA between Greenville High and Wade Hampton. Their was definitely some chippiness in the air. Even the fans were getting into it pretty strong verbally in the stands.

Best Rebounder: (Tie) Kristin Burton of J.L. Mann was snagging a rebound every time we turned around. Greenville's Robb Francis was doing the same for the Red Raiders in their victory. Francis also wins our "right place at the right time" award. He kept making plays whether rebounding, defending, or key buckets to spark his team to the win.

All Response: Greenville's Tommie Lee Hawkins and Shannon Foster both answered the bell with clutch baskets when the Wade Hampton Generals were trying to make a run at them. Anthony Breeze may be their best player but Saturday these two youngsters stepped it up once again for coach Dondi McGowan. Hawkins gets our "toughest pound for pound" nod as he had a huge game not only scoring but on the boards as well. At 5'8 he scored 22 points and snatched 16 rebounds.

Loudest Fans: Tough call...the Greenville Red Raiders get the edge barely.

Basketball or Football?: Kentrell Davis & Anthony Breeze. Breeze has the build for the gridiron but Davis is a big time 2008 DL prospect for Newberry (has offers from Clemson & USC already). The big fella showed some nice touch during warmups at 6'4 285 lbs. Breeze's shoulders/arms suggest he loves to hit the weight room...something most ballers don't do often this early in their career.

Youth Movement: Broome's Tamyra Bell had a nice all-around game for the Lady Centurions. Not necessarily just scoring but she had some key rebounds, nice passes, and defended well when challenged. Oh yeah she's just an 8th grader. Looks like they may have another state player of the year candidate on their hands in 4 years.
