The Team of the Week

A shocking week in the Palmetto State. Could this be a new world order or will the traditional powers assert themselves in Week 3. Our teams of the week are not the usual cast of suspects.

Upstate Team of the Week

Mauldin Mavericks

Rarely in a loss can a team earn team of the week but the Mauldin Mavericks proved against Dorman that they are a very good football team worthy of recognition. Coach Abercrombie has a well coached team that plays great fundamental football and has a number of talented players. While the Mavericks may not take solace in a Moral Victory, I know they have the respect of the Dorman Cav coaching staff and we take notice when a program takes a positive step with improvement

Midland Teams of the Week

Spring Valley Vikings

63 points in a game is a hard feat to accomplish but the Spring Valley Vikings accomplished that Friday Night at Harry Perone Stadium. The offense put over 500 yards on the board and defeated the Lexington Wildcats by 28.

CSRA Team of the Week

Aiken Hornets

After suffering a humbling 41-22 loss on the road at the hands of the Byrnes Rebels last week, Aiken came back to reclaim some of their pride and luster with a hard fought 17-14 road win against the Gaffney Indians. The Hornets rolled up over 300 yards of total offense in the contest and rallied from a 14-7 second half deficit in improving their record to 2-1. For that performance, Aiken has been named as the CSRA Team of the Week. Aiken continues the long road swing this week a little closer to home against the winless mustangs of Midland Valley.

Lakelands Team of the Week

Abbeville Panthers

Stepping up one class is tough but going up 2 classes is near impossible. Someone forgot to tell the Panthers from Abbeville that they were supposed to be a pushover for the 4A Eagles of Greenwood. A convincing 35-11 win preceded by a victory over Ninety Six in Week 1 has the town of Abbeville excited about the 2002 season and looking forward to huge

Low Country Team of the Week

 Berkeley Stags

2 games against big foes and 2 victories have the Stags dreaming of Columbia. The Stags hit on all cylinders Friday and defeated the Patriots from Fort Dorchester 49-14. Big games against the Cougars and Knights are on the horizon. The game on Oct 25 with Stratford is shaping up to be a classic. The Slicker versus MJ.....pistols at the 50.

Pee Dee Team of the Week

West Florence Knights

The Green and Gold Knights of Coach Calabrese have started 2-0 for the first time in many years and we know one "knightdad" that is jumping from the rafters at the thought of this edition of the Knights. The Knights have a favorable schedule in the weeks to come and could be looking at a playoff spot in 2002.
