Team Truth Wins 17U At SC Super Regionals

Coaches Curtis Wheeler and Damien Days have assembled a nice blend of talent for AAU squad Team Truth. This past weekend Team Truth won the 17U title at the Super Regionals in North Augusta, SC. Powered by the likes of Laron Dendy, Zycorrian Robinson, and Omar Sanders Team Truth will be a team to watch this AAU season.

It was a long hard battle but Team Truth was victorious in this past weekend's South Carolina AAU Super Regionals 17U's. Team Truth ran the table at Riverview Park Activities Center in North Augusta going 6-0 en route to the 17U title. Team Truth sports a few big names headlined by Clemson commit Laron Dendy, Spartanburg High stars Zycorrian Robinson and Omar Sanders, and Dreher's Case Stigelbauer. Truth's strategy however was to share the ball early and often and let the game come to his key offensive standouts. The formula worked to a science as Team Truth used their stellar defense to keep the opposition at bay all weekend and came away victorious.

Head coach Curtis Wheeler had his team prepared for this weekend as Team Truth came out and shared the ball and played some superb defense. We caught up with assistant coach Damien Days to talk about Team Truth's strong play this weekend.

Days told us, "We had a great tournament. We defeated the North Carolina Raptors 72-57 in the championship game on Sunday. Each game somebody stepped up...it was a total team effort."

Team Truth's quest started Friday evening against the Augusta Cavaliers resulting in a 64-56 victory. From there on Saturday they battled the Carolina Hurricanes coming away with a 76-62 win. The two victories paired with their margin of victory had TT seeded #3 heading into Saturday night's pairing where they once again faced the Carolina Hurricanes. Once again behind the power of LaRon Dendy, Omar Sanders, and Zycorrian Robinson they walked away with an impressive 91-64 win.

On the final day of competition on Sunday Team Truth had their closest game of the tournament versus Inner Strength Black (a team based out of Georgia). The members of Team Truth pulled together late and held off Inner Strength Black narrowly in a 66-65 victory.

Truth would then face Inner Strength Red in their second game of the day during single elimination play. Inner Strength Red features Georgia commit PG Dustin Ware. Team Truth's Zycorrian Robinson and Reggie Middleton were given the task of slowing the future Bulldog down and they did just that helping Team Truth reach the finals with a 61-52 win.

With their huge victory in the finals over the North Carolina Raptors Team Truth received a berth to the National AAU Tournament but also the satisfaction of going undefeated in the tournament and getting off to a great start on the AAU circuit this year.

"I know Toby, Omar, Z-Man, Reggie & Jerel averaged about 10 points per game while LaRon had anywhere from 15 to 20 points each game. Case Stigelbauer had a really good tournament too...he played well on both ends. Omar and LaRon kept people out of the paint blocking a lot of shots. Z-Man and Reggie were locking down opposing guards all during the tournament as well." Days and head coach Curtis Wheeler will now take Team Truth on to Washington D.C. to compete in the Charlie Weber Tournament which usually features some of the best teams from throughout the nation.
