From the first team we saw Laron Dendy play we knew he had the makings of a high major prospect and Dendy made good on that by committing early to the Clemson Tigers. The former Greer High star has taken his game on to Hope Christian Academy (NC). We caught up with Dendy for the very latest in an exclusive Q&A.
KF: So how'd you do last season with Hope Christian Academy?
LD: I did pretty good I guess. I averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds per game.
KF: Have you grown any?
LD: I'm 6'9 210 pounds now so yeah a little.
KF: What makes you such an outstanding basketball player Laron?
LD: I think because I've been able to play against better players in practic and against the teams we play at Hope Christian. I also sit down and watch a lot of film to study my game and my opponents. Another thing is that I work out all the time.
KF: Talk about playing AAU ball with Team Truth, how are things going?
LD: We're doing really good man. We were undefeated until we recently lost in the championship game at Charlie Weber Easter Hoopfest in Washington DC. We've got a good squad.
KF: What parts of your game are you working on the most these days?
LD: Basically my perimeter game and handling the rock.
KF: Since you watch a lot of film do you ever try to pattern your game after anybody else's or just have a favorite player?
LD: I pattern my game after Carmelo Anthony. If I can get my handles up then I feel like I can do the same types of things he's capable of doing.
KF: Are you excited about playing for Coach Purnell after the strong season the Tigers had this year?
LD: Yes sir. I try to stay in contact with the players and coaches pretty often.
KF: Are there any other schools that are still trying to recruit you?
KF: What are your goals for your senior season at Hope Christian Academy?
LD: Basically this year I want to finish up strong, continue to get a great education and get on to school.
