Last season during the second round of the play-offs, several viewers were on hand to witness the highlight show Leander put on in front of a home crowd against Rock Hill. "I had a real good game against Rock Hill in the play-offs last year. I had three touchdowns passing, I ran one in, and I returned a punt for a touchdown."
It is safe to say that after that game, it didn't take colleges very long to take notice of the Irmo High standout. Barney has been receiving attention from several small schools along with a couple of ACC schools, Maryland and Virginia. "Maryland has probably been recruiting me the hardest so far. They just recently came by the school to see me. I like them a lot. They're really cool, their people are really nice."
Barney has attended quite a few camps/combines in the past. He is in the process of finalizing his plans to take his show on the road one last time this summer. He will be taking a trip to Gainesville to camp with the Gators, and will also be taking his second trip to the University of Auburn for their football camp as well.
Leander plays the game with such a high level of confidence looking to be a threat every time he touches the ball. On the field, he feels that he is a true leader and a playmaker. "I have the strength to take over the game. If I see something that needs to be done to help the team, I try to do it."
Barney will be making a switch from QB to WR/DB come this fall. There is no doubt that this move will be of best interest for his future. But don't be surprise if he makes an occasional appearance under center.
