UP NEXT: McCormick RB Jerel Franklin

McCormick High School made it back to the South Carolina high school playoffs last season under head coach Art Mann. The Chiefs were led by 5-11, 181 pound junior running back, Jerel Franklin. Jerel will be returning this fall to tote the mail once again for the Chiefs. Come inside with SCPrepNation.com as we get a closer look at the 2008 prospect.

Jerel Franklin, a 5'11 181 pound running back who runs a 4.4 in the forty yard dash put up some solid numbers as a junior, rushing for 1011 yards and 8 touchdowns helping lead McCormick High to their first play-off berth in over four years. Next fall Jerel will be back for his final season with the Chiefs. SCPrepNation.com checks in with the 2008 prospect from McCormick, South Carolina to get the latest.

We started off our conversation with Jerel by asking him to give us a break down on his running style, and why he is such an effective runner on the field. "I am somewhat of a power runner with good speed," he said. "I have the ability to break tackles, and I have the speed to break away from the defense."

Jerel informed SCPrepNation.com of one particular game from last season that currently sticks out in his mind. "My best game last season was when we played against Dixie High School," Jerel said. I had 18 carries for 285 yards, and 3 touchdowns. I took one to the house for 82 yards in that game."

Several schools have been in touch with the rising senior during the May evaluation period. "Elon, Coastal Carolina, Citadel, Georgia Southern, Clemson, and SC State have came by the school to see me this spring," Jerel said. "South Carolina has been expressing interest in me as a DB; they haven't made it by the school yet, but they did speak with my coach on the phone."

Jerel seems pretty wide open at this point and plans to take a few trips this summer, once he determines which schools are most serious about making him a part of their program. Currently he doesn't hold any official offers, but you can expect them to start coming in once more schools learn of him. With a legit speed of 4.4 in the forty we personally don't expect him the stay on the boards very long.

We will bring you more info on Jerel Franklin as he continues working hard towards the 2007 season.

Note: Jerel informed SCPrepNation.com of a special trip that he will be making this summer. He will be attending the Boys State program. It is an honor to be chosen as a delegate to such a prestigious program as Boys State. On behalf of the staff from SCPrepNation.com we say congratulations Jerel on a job well done.
