WR Randall Hawkins Says 2 ACC Schools Lead

Randall Hawkins is one of the top WR's in the southeast and he's the go to guy for the Byrnes Rebels when they need a big play. SCPrepNation.com caught up with Hawkins to see just where his recruitment currently stands so come inside for the very latest.

Last year Randall Hawkins lead the Palmetto State in receiving and he's back for his senior season looking to show people that he indeed is one of the premier playmakers in not only SC but the entire southeast. Things will be a little different next season as his longtime QB Willy Korn has moved on to Clemson.

With Korn's move to Clemson Hawkins says there will be little change in things with a new quarterback throwing the ball his way. "It'll be the same with Chas or Trent throwing me the ball. We have to work a little bit more but it'll be good."

Some feel the Rebels may have fallen a great deal after winning 4 straight state championships but expectations are high once again Randall told us. "We're going to come together and get the team back to the state championship."

It's been a busy summer for Hawkins as he's been to various 7 on 7's and team camps across the southeast. Currently a number of schools are actively recruiting the 2008 star. "Right now Wake Forest, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Florida, and Florida State are recruiting me the hardest. Out of those I'd say Wake Forest and North Carolina probably stand ahead of the rest in terms of recruitment."

He also told us what will be important to him when decision time rolls around. "Education is first and foremost, after that I'd say the overall atmosphere with the school, team, and football program."

With his senior season ahead of him he outlined his main objectives for his final year. "I will be working hard to keep my GPA up in the classroom and route running and catching on the football field."

Already an outstanding route runner Hawkins says one thing in particular that has helped him thus far in his career. "My explosiveness off the line I guess is one other thing that has been big for me." His work in the weight room has improved during his career as he boasts a 250 pound bench press, a 500 pound squat, and a 34 inch vertical leap.

High school stars often look to players on the next level to study tendencies and moves. Hawkins has a who's who of wide receivers that he enjoys watching for tips and technique. "I watch a lot of Calvin Johnson and Steve Smith."

SCPrepNation.com will keep you up to date on the recruitment of Randall Hawkins as the summer rolls on towards his senior season so stay tuned.
