09' SG Robbie Dreher Has Set Goals To Improve

Southside's boys basketball came up one game short of winning it all last year. They lost an all-state player in Justin Edwards but they return everyone else including 2009 standout SG Robbie Dreher. Inside Dreher gives SCPrepNation.com an update on the very latest.

The Southside Tigers almost ran the table last season coming up short against Lee Central and Michael Holmes in the championship game. Yet still their 27-1 record is nothing to hold their heads low for. They did lose all-state player Justin Edwards but the rest of their team returns, in fact they'll be back for another two seasons as most were just sophomores last year.

Shooting guard Robbie Dreher appears to be the new leader for the team and his ability to knock down perimeter shots at a high rate has already earned him a scholarship offer from Charleston Southern. It's been a busy offseason for Dreher as he has played AAU ball with the Carolina Celtics all over the country and continues to hone his skills to try and help Southside win it all next season.

Dreher recently returned from team camp at Winthrop with his Tiger teammates. "Yeah we went to team camp up there and did really well. We won the championship and went undefeated. There were a lot of teams there, some of the ones I remember were Crestwood, Northwestern, South Pointe, and a lot of teams from North Carolina."

The championship game he can't recall the exact number of points he scored but he said, "I did good though, I scored a lot of points in that game."

Immediately following team camp at Winthrop Dreher didn't return home to Greenville but made a direct trip to Charleston Southern for individual camp. He told us about his visit to the CSU campus. "It was a nice campus. They just remodeled it and told us if we had a minimum of a 2.3 GPA that you'd get to stay in some condos off campus that they have. I saw a lot there."

Still early in the process a few schools are sending Dreher letters and keeping in contact on a regular basis. "Gardner-Webb, Clemson, and Winthrop are probably recruiting me the hardest. Charleston Southern is my only scholarship offer right now." There are some schools that Dreher says he'd definitely love to hear from. "I'd like to hear from South Carolina and Memphis."

The Carolina Celtics enjoyed a dynamic start to their season but have cooled off a little finally after winning their first 18-20 games of the year.

"We came in second at Clemson and didn't do real well at the Bob Gibbons TOC. Our next tournament is in Orlando or Cincinnati in July sometime."

Already one of the top prospects in the Palmetto State for 2009 Dreher says there's still plenty of work to do to try and improve his game and stock. "I have been working really hard on my defense overall. I'm also working real hard on my ballhandling and midrange jumpshots."

SCPrepNation.com will have more on Robbie Dreher as he continues to shine on the AAU circuit with the Carolina Celtics and prepares himself for next season with the Southside Tigers so stay tuned.
