Big C Predicts - - - - - Week 5 Games

Last Week, Big C posted a 25-4 record. This becomes easier as the season goes along and I get to know all of the teams better. But the fun thing about it is that it is never 100% predictable. There were some surprises last week, and I'm sure that there will be some more on tap for us this week. Let's get to the games.

BYRNES AT EASLEY: After playing a national power last week, the struggling Green Wave may seem like a pee wee team to Byrnes. The Rebels will have the perfect opportunity to regroup from their tough loss to Evangel Christian. Byrnes should get to play everyone substantially, because this one will probably be over in the first quarter. Byrnes can pick their own score here, but we'll go with... Byrnes 49, Easley 0.

AIKEN AT GREENWOOD: It has become apparent that this is not the Eagles team of the past few seasons. Greenwood is really stuggling to stop people on defense. The Green Hornets may be a little rusty after a bye week, but I think they will get it together in time to pick up their fourth win... Aiken 24, Greenwood 17.

BOILING SPRINGS AT T.L. HANNA: We have two very improved teams that are both playing well squaring off in Anderson. The Yellow Jackets are 4-0 and have posted over 40 points the past three weeks. But their four opponents have won a total of only 3 games, and Boiling Springs will probably be the best team they have seen so far. This one will come down to the final seconds, with the nod going to the home team... Hanna 24, Boiling Springs 21.

MAULDIN AT LAURENS: The Mavericks suffered a very disappointing loss to Boiling Springs last week and will be looking to rebound. Unfortunately for Mauldin, Laurens has shown great improvement from the past few seasons and is once again a formidable foe. The Raiders look to have the edge in this one... Laurens 27, Mauldin 17.

WESTSIDE AT SENECA: Seneca is a once-proud 3A program that has really struggled this year. For the Rams, the Bobcats are a huge step down from Dorman, and Westside will be able to prevail for the second time this year... Westside 21, Seneca 13.

GAFFNEY AT NORTHWESTERN: There has probably never been so much unrest in Gaffney concerning Indian football as there is now. It would be such a huge boost to the Indians and the town of Gaffney to pull an upset here, but the Trojan defense is just too tough... Northwestern 21, Gaffney 7.

SPARTANBURG AT DANIEL: The Viking offense has gotten itself on a roll the past couple of weeks. That's bad news for the Lions... Spartanburg 42, Daniel 14.

DORMAN AT HILLCREST: The Rams are really struggling. They do not figure to put up much of a challenge to the Cavaliers as they will simply be overmatched... Dorman 35, Hillcrest 7.

DUTCH FORK AT FORT MILL: The solid Silver Fox defense will lead Dutch Fork to a road victory over the winless Yellow Jackets... Dutch Fork 13, Fort Mill 6.

CAMDEN AT LANCASTER: The defending 3A state champs are too much for the Bruins... Camden 35, Lancaster 7.

RICHLAND NORTHEAST AT RIDGE VIEW: The Cavaliers have looked great a couple of weeks and not so great the other two. The Blazers are 1-3, but they have held their own in every game and are not a bad team. But Northeast is better and should be able to pick up win number three... Richland NE 27, Ridge View 10.

ROCK HILL AT CLOVER: Yawn. Ho-Hum for Rock Hill and their defense... Rock Hill 28, Clover 0.

SPRING VALLEY AT WHITE KNOLL: The Vikings can put up some points as they have a good offense. That offense will be on display against White Knoll Friday night... Spring Valley 31, White Knoll 13.

LEXINGTON AT IRMO: This might be the best game in the state this week; the Wildcat's powerful offense against the Yellow Jacket's stingy defense in a heated rivalry game. It should be very interesting. There is an old adage that a great defense will always slow a great offense, so... Irmo 24, Lexington 21.

AIRPORT AT NORTH AUGUSTA: The Yellow Jackets should have no problem running to their fourth victory of the season against the winless Eagles... North Augusta 34, Airport 6.

MARLBORO COUNTY AT ORANGEBURG-WILKINSON: The Bulldogs got back on the winning track this week, and now they travel to face a talented and unpredictable Bruin team. I think Syvelle Newton will be the difference against a dangerous O-W team... Marlboro County 24, O-W 14.

SOUTH AIKEN AT SILVER BLUFF: The Thoroughbreds are 4-0 for the first time ever, but theiur competition so far has not been of the highest caliber. This Bulldog team might not be as good as the last couple, but they are still very good. It'll be much closer than it was last year between these teams, but I think the result will still be the same... Silver Bluff 28, South Aiken 24.

LOWER RICHLAND AT HARTSVILLE: The Red Foxes are one of the most improved teams in the state. They should be 4-1 after this game with the Diamonds... Hartsville 35, Lower Richland 6.

CRESTWOOD AT SUMTER: The Knight have been a disappointing team so far, whereas Sumter has looked like a potential Big 16 title contender. The Gamecocks should take this game between Sumter County rivals... Sumter 30, Crestwood 8.

LAKE CITY AT CONWAY: The 3A Panthers won't be a big challenge for the Tigers... Conway 35, Lake City 0.

CARVERS BAY AT SOCASTEE: Carvers Bay, a 2A school, is 4-0. But their wins have come against a trio of 1A programs and Georgetown, a struggling 3A team. The Braves have stuggled themselves, but I think Socastee has enough to knock off their AA foe this Friday... Socastee 14, Carvers Bay 6.

SOUTH FLORENCE AT WEST FLORENCE: These two rivals both suffered their first loss of the season last week. In a game that will be blessed with Big C's presence, the Bruins have a better defense and will be victorious over the Knights, and Victoria will be going home happy... South Florence 34, West Florence 20.

BERKELEY AT COLLETON COUNTY: Despite being 3-1, the Cougars have had their struggles putting points on the board at times. That has not been a problem for the Stags, and I think Berkeley will remain undefeated... Berkeley 35, Colleton County 20.

BATTERY CREEK AT GOOSE CREEK: After a near upset of Stratford last week, the Dolphins look like they may have hit their stride. They should be able to pick up a win over the Gators... Battery Creek 21, Goose Creek 10.

BEAUFORT AT JAMES ISLAND: The Eagles have been on the the poorest teams in the 4A ranks, particularly on defense. The trojans will take full advantage of that... James Island 31, Beaufort 14.

WANDO AT HILTON HEAD: The Warriors, fresh off a great victory over Dutch Fork on the road, look to pick up another road win. I think they have the talent to do it against the Seahawks... Wando 24, Hilton Head 17.

FORT DORCHESTER AT WEST ASHLEY: The young Patriots have had good games and poor games. The Wildcats are a teams they should be able to get some confidence back against... Fort Dorchester 27, West Ashley 20.

STRATFORD AT SUMMERVILLE: I would rate this the second most intriguing matchup in the state this week. This is a huge Lowcountry rivalry game. The Knight look very tough this year. The Green Wave will put up a great fight, but they will fall... Stratford 31, Summerville 24.

Another week of predictions are in the books. Enjoy the games, have fun win or lose, and if I picked your team to lose, go out there and prove me wrong!
