Tahj Tate: Hearing From High Major D1 Schools

Tahj Tate made an early commitment but the 09' baller has reopened things and high major D1 programs have been showering him with attention. In fact Tate claims offers from big time schools including one from a Final Four participant of just a year ago. Come inside and get the scoop on Tate's recruitment and his thoughts about next season for the Easley Green Wave.

We didn't waste any time in our interview with 2009 SG Tahj Tate of Easley High School. We got right to the point and asked the hoops standout if he was still committed to Delaware State. We got our answer and he then informed us that not only is back on the block but that he's hearing from some of the top programs in the nation.

Tate says that his early commitment was because, "I didn't know what I was doing." Now that he's reopened his recruitment some heavy hitters have made their presence felt bombarding him with attention. "Right now I'm hearing from Georgetown, UNLV, Clemson, Appalachian State, and Arizona." Tate also claims offers from all of those programs as well. At 6'2 184 pounds the youngster still has two years ahead of him in his high school career and that's the scary part. Tate currently rates just two stars on the Scout.com network but he hasn't been evaluated in some time by our national analysts. In our book Tate should be a four star prospect and when our SCPrepNation.com Class of 2009 player rankings are announced soon you can bet he'll challenge for the top spot in the Palmetto State.

Last season as a sophomore Tahj averaged 17.5 points and 8 assists per game. Easley made it to the AAAA upper state championship game before being ousted by Fort Mill. With last year's AAAA player of the year Michael Jenkins graduating it's Tate's turn to shoulder more of the load.

While many of the shooting guards out there have a gunner's mentality Tate shows all around skills that have sparked that interest from the aforementioned programs. Asked to describe his own game he replied, "I make everyone around me better." He counts the following as some of his strengths on the hardwood as well. "My scoring ability, passing, defense, and dunking."

While Tate and his Easley squad came up short last year they are preparing to make another run for a AAAA state championship. One opponent stands out from all the rest though for Tate and his teammates. "Wren, because we are big rivals and the games are always sold out." The rivalry with Wren also brings out the very best in Tahj as he told us that he in fact had his best game ever against his rivals. "It has to be against Wren, I had 31 points and it was a great game. I will always remember that game."

This offseason Tahj has been playing AAU ball with the Upstate Ballers and he says things have been going well on the summer circuit.

Tate says he sees a little of "Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson mixed together" in himself.
