Dawkins latest journey took him to Tallahassee, Florida where he went to work at Florida State's camp. Jackpot. Once again the Byrnes standout proved why he's one of the top DE prospects in the nation. Blessed with good size at 6'3 250 pounds and capable of running a 4.6 in the 40 it didn't take long before the Seminoles realized they had to extend Dawkins a scholarship offer. Asked how he felt about getting the offer Dawkins replied, "Well it made me feel great! I was down there at the camp giving it my all like always and I came away with it."
He also has a leader but says he'll divulge that information to us at a later date. His timeframe for making a decision remains the same as he plans on announcing a final decision in December.
Being that his latest offer came from the Seminoles we asked him to tell us what stands out the most about the Seminoles for him at this point. "The defense. They always have a great defense. Especially the defensive line."
With a few weeks remaining before school is set to start once again Dawkins informed us that he's done with taking visits until then. "Right now I'm done. I'm going to start getting ready for my senior season." With his senior season forthcoming we questioned Dawkins about his goals for his final prep campaign. "To be the sack man! I'm going after the record. I know a former player of Byrnes has it right now but I'm really going after it this year."
Seeing double and triple teams throughout his career Dawkins will undoubtedly see them once again but in terms of one on one blocking there probably isn't anyone he'll face that can handle him man on man. The humble Dawkins had this to say about it, "I will say with all the work I have been puting in it's going to be hard do that."
With an exodus of players lost to graduation last year some expect the Rebels to falter somewhat this year. Dawkins spoke about his Byrnes defense and what people can expect from this season. "To be the Strike Force once again. Last year we were pretty good. The most someone scored on us was like 28 so this yerar we are looking to bring that down a lot."
With some tremendous offers on the table Dawkins says some programs are wanting an early commit but there are others who giving him time to think about things without the added pressure. He also talked about his thoughts on the recruiting process when it all started and one school he'd still like to hear more from. "Well when I first started I was planning on hearing from Clemson and South Carolina but they never really recruited me hard. But I would love to hear from the University of Florida more."
SCPrepNation.com will have more updates on Byrnes DE Everett Dawkins as the summer rolls on and keep you updated with the very latest regarding his recruitment so stay tuned.
