Dorman 45 Aiken 3
This one got ugly early as the Dorman Cavaliers utilized a rushing attack of epic proportions against Aiken High School. We're talking to the tune of 350+ rushing yards on the night for the Cavaliers.
RB Christian Graham and QB Johnny Foster both broke the 100 yard mark running the ball (120 & 109 respectively). Foster wasn't too shabby throwing the ball either as he was 6-7 for 66 yards with 1 touchdown.
It's just week 1 of the season but could the Cavaliers be back to their previous form in which they were one of the top teams in AAAA? We'll have to wait and see but they looked very impressive against Aiken on Friday night.
Rock Hill 7 Gaffney 20
The defending AAAA Big 16 champions got their season off to a winning start extending their win streak to 23 games. Gone is QB Malcolm Long but the Indians turned the ball over to RB Jeremiah Cochran who ran it 20 times for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns.
From there the Gaffney defense stood tall holding Rock Hill to just 114 yards total offense and 7 first downs.
The Indians offense still is looking to gel as they had 7 fumbles losing 6 of them on the night. As the season continues on expect those mistakes to be corrected and for the Indians to continue their improvement considering their youth.
Things don't get any easier for the Indians as they will face AAA power Greenville High next week. SCPrepNation.com will be in the house to bring you the highlights and photos.
Westside 43 Hanna 13
The battle of Anderson county took place during week 1 and the Rams came in and handled their business in this one. Hanna came in with a 1-0 mark after winning in week 0 last week but the Rams putting up 36 unanswered points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters against the Yellow Jackets.
RB Montez Hatten had a huge game with 26 carries for 211 yards and a touchdown. Pierre Tolliver and Chris Wiley both scored 2 touchdowns on the ground for the Rams as they made a huge statement to the rest of the teams remaining on their schedule.
Duke commit CB Lee Butler made his presence felt as he had a 27 yard interception return for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter.
The Rams are another team to keep a close eye on as the season progresses.
J.L. Mann 7 Greenville 43
On paper this one looked like a good one. Bitter rivals with some great player matchups but the Red Raiders put this one to bed early.
So early in fact that Greenville WR Chris Wallace took the opening kickoff 82 yards to paydirt. Wallace went on to line up all over the field for coach Jim Sosebee's club. He caught 2 passes for 22 yards and a touchdown, ran 5 times for 94 yards, and passed 1 time for a 31 yard touchdown.
Teammate WR Tony Curtis also scored 2 touchdowns for the Red Raiders as they poured it on the Patriots at Sirrine Stadium. A.J. Terry also netted 78 yards rushing for the Red Raiders on the night.
For the Patriots their lone score came on a 34 yard run by Justin Davis in the third quarter. Tennessee commit S J.T. Floyd lined up at wide receiver and caught 5 passes for 102 yards.
Greer 21 Daniel 35
This game may not have the luster it used to have a few years ago but it made for a very entertaining game. The stats would suggest that this one was a lot closer than it actually was as Greer amassed over 370 yards of of offense. In the end the defense and special teams of the Daniel Lions was the catalyst. In fact it set the tone for the Lions as they scored their first touchdown of the season on a 71 yard interception return by Deandre Hopkins (we'll be featuring Hopkins soon so stay tuned). The Yellow Jackets had 5 turnovers during the game which also contributed to their demise.
Later on after Greer stormed back to a 14-7 lead the Lions swung the momentum once again on the ensuing kickoff as Marcus Greenlee took it 83 yards for the score.
With the Yellow Jackets leading 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter the Lions caught fire and reeled off 21 straight points. It started with a short run by Michael Wingard and then Andrew Moore hauled in a 41 yard touchdown pass from Justin Walker. To seal it Leroy Whitner scooped up a fumble and raced 52 yards for the final score.
