Big C had another solid week of predicting last week, picking 23 games right and 4 games wrong. This week does not feature a lot of key matchups, which means that I have an excellent chance for another good week. But we must keep in mind that anything is possible, especially when we are dealing with 14-18 year old kids. I'm sure this week has a surprise or two in store for us. Let's get to the games...
EASLEY AT DORMAN: The Green Wave look to be considerably overmatched yet again this week. At least the Cavaliers don't figure to score 60 on them, as the Dorman offense is not as high-powered as the Byrnes offense is... Dorman 37, Easley 7.
GREENWOOD AT BYRNES: The Eagles put the state on notice that they are still a team to be reckoned with by routing Aiken last Friday. I think this game will be closer than some might anticipate, but in the end Byrnes probably has too many weapons for Greenwood to overcome... Byrnes 38, Greenwood 24.
T.L. HANNA AT SOUTH AIKEN: At the beginning of the season, who would have evr thought that this would be this week's biggest and most intriguing matchup with both teams coming in 5-0? The Thoroughbreds are at home and they proved last week that they can beat good teams by knocking off Silver Bluff. Therefore, South Aiken gets a slight edge in this one... South Aiken 27, Hanna 24.
HILLCREST AT GAFFNEY: The Indians might have hit another new low Friday when they were blasted 50-6 by Northwestern. This is a game that Gaffney desperately needs to win. I think the Indians will regain some lost pride in this one... Gaffney 27, Hillcrest 14.
MAULDIN AT SPARTANBURG: The Viking offense is on a roll, and it will be too much for the Mavericks... Spartanburg 42, Mauldin 17.
LAURENS AT WESTSIDE: This could turn out to be a pretty good game. The Raiders bounce back from their loss to Mauldin... Laurens 24, Westside 14.
FORT MILL AT BOILING SPRINGS: The Yellow Jacket defense has surrendered a lot of points and Fort Mill is winless on the season. The Bulldogs are quite a bit improved from last season and should be able to have some fun on offense and pick up their third win... Boiling Springs 34, Fort Mill 17.
LANCASTER AT CONWAY: The Bruins can be a dangerous team, as they played defending 3A state champs Camden close last week, losing 38-30. Conway must keep this in mind. The Tiger defense has been tough, though, and Conway should be able to come out on top in this one... Conway 28, Lancaster 10.
NORTH AUGUSTA AT NORTHWESTERN: The Yellow Jacket offense is averaging 35.8 points per game. But they have yet to face a defense anywhere near as tough as what Northwestern has, and District 3 stadium is always a very tough place for a visiting team to win. North Augusta will be held considerably below their average and they will fall for the second time... Northwestern 30, North Augusta 13.
T.W. JOSEY(GA) AT AIKEN: Josey is a 3A school in Augusta, GA. Their record is 1-3. From what I've seen, I think Aiken should be able to bounce back from their humiliating loss to Greenwood this Friday. Josey has had some trouble scoring points ... Aiken 28, Josey 7.
RIDGE VIEW AT SOUTH FLORENCE: Despite their 1-4 record, the Blazers have been in most of their games because they have played some solid defense. The Bruins are another defensive-oriented team. This will be a low-scoring game with the nod going to the home team... South Florence 14, Ridge View 10.
ROCK HILL AT AIRPORT: The Bearcats should fly high at Airport. The Eagles are winless. Jim Ringer should get a look at all of his players this week... Rock Hill 41, Airport 0.
SUMTER AT SPRING VALLEY: The 5-0 Gamecocks are a definite contender for the Big 16 title and have to be the favorite in this one. But the Vikings have the ability to put up points and could be dangerous to Sumter if they are not careful... Sumter 27, Spring Valley 20.
LEXINGTON AT DUTCH FORK: The Silver Foxes have a decent defense, but nothing like what Irmo showed Lexington last week. Dutch Fork's offense will not be able to generate enough points for the Silver Foxes to win this one... Lexington 28, Dutch Fork 14.
MARLBORO COUNTY AT ORANGEBURG-WILKINSON: The Bruins have the talents to beat anyone in the state on any given week, so this is a dangerous trip for the Bulldogs. But Marlboro County has Syvelle Newton, and he will be the difference in this game... Marlboro County 24, O-W 14.
IRMO AT WHITE KNOLL: The Yellow Jackets will once again be victorious on the strength of their terrific defense... Irmo 17, White Knoll 0.
LOWER RICHLAND AT CRESTWOOD: The Diamonds proved last week against Hartsville that you cannot take them lightly. I don't think Crestwood will. The Knights have superior talent and should win... Crestwood 26, Lower Richland 14.
HARTSVILLE AT RICHLAND NORTHEAST: Outside of Camden, this will be the toughest team the Red Foxes have faced all year. The nod has to go to the Cavaliers... Richland Northeast 27, Hartsville 17.
BATTERY CREEK AT BERKELEY: The Stags should continue their winning ways, but they must keep in mind how close the Dolphins played Stratford I don't see this one will being quite as close as that one, but I don't see a blowout either... Berkeley 28, Battery Creek 13.
GOOSE CREEK AT SUMMERVILLE: The Green Wave are an improved team over last year, and they showed against Stratford that they can play with anyone. They should have a fairly easy time with the Gators... Summerville 31, Goose Creek 10.
COLLETON COUNTY AT JAMES ISLAND: The Trojans are capable of winning this game, but I don't think they will. The Cougars have a solid team that will be hungry after very nearly beating Berkeley last week... Colleton County 27, James Island 17.
FORT DORCHESTER AT STRATFORD: The young Patriots will give Startford a game, but the Knights will be too much for them at home in the end... Stratford 24, Fort Dorchester 14.
WANDO AT BEAUFORT: The Warriors put up 51 on Hilton Head last week and have a good team. Beaufort does not have a good team... Wando 34, Beaufort 14.
WEST ASHLEY AT HILTON HEAD: This game will not break any attendance records, but it might turn out to be one of the more entertaining games of the week. The Wildcats and Seahawks appear to be about evenly matched, and this one will go down to the wire and come down to a mistake. Flip a coin... West Ashley 28, Hilton Head 27.
Well, another week of predictions are done. Now let's enjoy the games and see how it all turns out. Play hard and have fun!
