Spearman & Eagles Hold Off Vikings 7-2

Jay Spearman (pictured) and the Greenwood Eagles won an ugly game against Spartanburg High on Friday night. Despite the pouring rain Spearman helped his team come away with a 7-2 win. Come inside for a quick recap of the game.

It rained and rained on Friday night causing many games to be postponed until Saturday. That didn't happen at Gibbs Stadium at Wofford College though as Greenwood High came to town to take on the Spartanburg Vikings.

While our cameras had to stay in their bags to avoid getting drenched we stood on the sidelines checking out the battle between the defending AAAA Div. 2 champion Eagles and Doc Davis' Vikings squad. What we saw early on was quite sloppy as the weather dominated the action with a number of turnovers.

Greenwood QB Jay Spearman wasn't his normal self it seemed as the soaked field slowed things down for everybody. Still the South Carolina commit flashed his ability to scramble when a play broke down and gain positive yards for his team. Once again the weather played a big role in Spearman's inability to make accurate passes as we had him accounted for 2 thrown interceptions on the night.

Greenwood appeared to be in control from the get go but could never muster any continuity on offense following their opening score. The Vikings had their chances but couldn't capitalize when they had the ball. They'd gain a few first downs on each series threatening the Eagle defense and then either turn the ball over or be forced to punt it away.

We were able to shoot some video footage despite the inclement weather and it will be available once it is loaded so be sure to check back with us.
